Purchased my 2023 Ford F150 Lightning XLT with the extended battery and Equipment Group 312A package in mid-April of 2024. MSRP before some dealer “add-ons” was $71,990.
I just received a ‘base value’ from CARFAX stating that the value of my vehicle is now $34,140 !!!!
If this is correct then this is friggin insane!
I am in my mid 60’s and for decades I have purchased a new vehicle about every 5-6 years. No previous vehicle I’ve owned, regardless of the manufacturer and type vehicle has ever depreciated as much and as quickly as my Ford Lightning if I am to believe CARFAX.
Anyone out there who can confirm or deny this CARFAX value?
Thanks
CARFAX vastly understates auto resale value. Have your vehicle detailed and sell yourself through Auto Trader or similar online services.

All new vehicles, no matter the price, end up at scrap value. The value anywhere in the middle is determine by what others think it's worth. It's not a secret that luxury and EV's have extreme depreciation the first couple years.

I have the 2023 Lariat extended battery for around $80k new, and did a similar check on KBB. They showed a similar resale value, around $45k. Not sure how trustworthy that estimate is. Regardless, I plan to make the truck mine and enjoy it for many years. Who knows, if Ford stops producing pure BEV trucks, perhaps the resale value will climb after a few years. It's been a great truck for me, sporty, quiet, and utilitarian.

We bought our 23 lightning lariat ER a year ago. Sticker price was $79,000, we got $20,000 off in rebates. For fun we checked resale and kbb indicated $50,000 trade in value and the dealer I bought it from offered me $30,000 claiming kbb is high on trucks… he also claimed kbb didn’t know the local market as well as the sales manager does… either way we love the pickup and happy to keep it. Trading vehicles is rarely a money maker and my lightning will be no exception it appears.

I'll speculate your information is sadly correct. We are in newly uncharted territory regarding trading in non-Tesla EV's. Perhaps it will be prudent to retain your Lightning longer??
right now I'm willing to give away my Tesla. They are getting dumped fast and not many people are willing to risk getting harassed for the car they drive. Hence my time on this forum to decide what's next. Resale on electric cars sucks but it's a price worth paying imo having owned electric for 14+ years now.

Please share detail on "$20,000 off in rebates" - $7,500 IRS credit is one discount/not a rebate.

I think used EV prices are low right now due to the Tesla protests and people dumping Teslas. If Trump Tariffs are not reversed, new vehicle prices will skyrocket and used vehicles will follow like they did during covid. We will still lose money if we do a replacement.
The near future may be a good time to buy a used Tesla. 2023 model Y with less than 30K miles are under $30K. I think I might bite at closer to $20K and keep both EVs a bit longer. :)

That is why you lease EV's never purchase. At the end of the lease and the truck is upside down. You just had them keys and say thank you.

I’m not sure if one would call it “rebate”, “cash back” “discount”, or what ever you like, ford knocked off $15,000, dealer gave a $5,000 “rebate”, and the $7,500 IRS tax credit was on top of those. So technically we got $27,500 off if you want to factor that in. And a free charger… kinda feel guilty after laying it all out like that…

Tesla reportedly won’t even take CyberTrucks on trade-in.

That is what I got on a 2024 XLT plus I leased it $450 a month for 39 months. Residual is $38 grand and change at the end of the lease if I want to buy it. 2024 leases now are a great deal. I looked up 2025 leases and they are double or more!

2025 leasing - depends on Ford promotions and state subsidies. WA state last year - and plans this year to subsidize - $50m toward leases - so leasers pay just 20% of the lease cost - 2025 best lease deals ever!

Please share the invoice - that is a new USA record & it can be used for those trying to make a deal now.

That sounds like a noble deed but that document has transactional information that I don’t necessarily care to share with the entire world. However, it sounds like I’m not the only one that got that, it was an advertized price. The only thing of special interest was I got the $15,000 off from ford on a lariat and technically the advertisement stated XLT models only.

$54k 2024 Flash - a record low early this year.
