Not a bad idea.....I'd have to research Turo owner protections a lot more doing it. If it is sitting idle sometimes, and you are making payments, this is tempting.....

I wouldn't recommend it, unless you view your ownership as a short-term commitment.

Years ago I rented my Hellcat Charger (and Ford 150) though Turo and though 90% of the rentals treated the car like their own, I had a fair share of issues (about 10% of renters) including shredded tires, vape or other types of nasty smells, and accumulated small dings and scratches. Overall, the car aged much faster than if I was the only one driving it and I ended up selling after the 3rd year - I no longer felt connected to the car and it just felt like a rental.

On top of the added wear and tear, the process can be a real hassle. Many wanted the vehicle dropped off so I'd need to coordinate with my wife to follow me and pick me up every trip which gets old after a few times. You need to take pictures and document everything, carefully manage the availability and price, and be prepared deal with any issues that might come up - extended trips, warning lights, flat tires, general bitching, etc. In the end, even though I made a ton of money, it was not worth it, for me, at least.

You may bank some extra cash but you're basically whoring your car out.

I would say at this point its a "no". The risk vs reward is to lop sided. one wreck and now youre out a lightning for a while.

I like Turo and have used it exclusively now for at last 3-5 years when I have gone to SFO and Hawaii. I've not had too many issues, mainly cause I'm not looking for a specific car if it is free for delivery at the airport. I'm not near an airport and the idea of dealing with getting it to someone that is flying in would be a hassle.

I will say the first time I used it in SFO was the best rental car experience period. Turo had a little office a couple of blocks away, they picked me up, and when I got there I just had to verify the pictures and get the keys. I didn't have to sign anything. I waited longer for them to pick me up (which was maybe 10 minutes) than I did getting out of their car and into the rental. I even ran into the renter at one of the vineyard I was visiting in Sonoma (cause he recognized his car). He basically used it for going up to big bear and since it was the summer....

To @Ministry point, the last one I did (ESV Escalade) I had to get to where it was parked, they unlocked it. Overall that was a fine experience but it needed and oil change, badly. And so that was bugging me the entire time.

I wouldn't rent out my mustang at all.

Yeah, I have a Tesla Model 3 that I bought solely to rent on Turo and have had good success with it. I'm in the middle of moving to a new house and once settled I hope to have both EVs on Turo.

That'd be my mindset too, if it's my personal car i'd nervous as heck with strangers taking it out for days at a time.

If I get pushed into a higher trim level than I want (such as the Lariat or Platinum), I plan to. I’ve done the math and I could undercut every Tesla (and other EV brands) in my area on Turo and still easily make more than the monthly payment. I’ve also done the research about putting stipulations on use and what the renter is doing inside such as vaping/smoking.

All of this because I am fortunate to have a second family-sized vehicle and could technically afford to keep my Bolt EV to be a daily driver.

You can put in all to stipulations you want - it still won't stop renters from ultimately doing whatever they please.

I’d include:

• No Smoking Policy ($250/violation)
• Age requirement (21+ imo)
• Cleaning requirement, before return; fee if not met, renter must keep receipts
• Repair fees for scratches, rim damage; separate from major physical damage and/or glass damage
• Lost key requirements and fees
• Highway toll devices such as SunPass
• Fast charging billing expectations, especially if they are linked to your vehicle (such as free from Electrify America)
• Included charging cable
• Charging explanations and requirements ( Do not charge more than 95% and do not allow the car to reach less than 10%)
• Bed and towing usage requirements and restrictions
• Verify their insurance coverage

I could think of more, but those are some of the bigger things I’d list.

I’m ok with that, I would understand what I’m getting into. I’ve owned 34 vehicles I’m my life. A truck is just a truck.

I have thought of this since we had a great experience renting a Model Y with Turo when on vacation. It costs more but so much nicer ride and cheaper to operate.. the whole week of driving was $47 in charging compared to over $200 if we had to buy gasoline. I would look in your area because there are already a few F150 Lightnings listed on Turo. I plan to use the truck for my business since there is tax code 179 that lets me deduct some of the cost of the truck. Hopefully, that will help justify paying so much for a truck that I thought would be the Pro but now plans to be a Lariat. I have been patiently waiting for an email from Ford after reserving on day one, immediately after the announcement! I own two Ford Focus Electric EVs and they are the best cars that I have ever owned!! One motive for me to list the truck on Turo, if I do, is to let others be able to rent it to see what a great vehicle it is and eventually get one for themselves! I have never listed a car on Turo but my experience renting the Tesla on Turo was great and I am glad that others are listing EVs to rent since the rental companies are slow to the adoption of EVs. I am very happy Ford is producing an electric truck but upset by the time I get possession, it will likely not be eligible for the Federal rebate like my last two FFEs were.

this reminds me of when "Mythbusters" did a test involving tearing something apart between two rental cars - Adam turned to the camera and said "this is why you don't buy a rental car" and "we paid for the insurance". 😅

this said - hell no. I barely trust myself to drive the truck. I definitely don't trust anyone else to!
