Nice real-world list. Let's see how many the Lightning would handle:I don't have a lightning yet, but I'll say "maybe (voted yes)". I've done quite a few things with my ICE pickup that a lightning, and perhaps an EV in general would struggle with, if be capable at all, including:
-Routinely hauled gravel in the back, maxing out the F250's bed capacity. (its about 6-7k lbs)
-Took a trip to pickup a surface grinder on short-notice, so put a 5k machine in the bed, 130miles round trip.
-Took a trip to pick up a large 'metal shaper', 300 miles round trip, with a 16,000lb trailer on the way back.
-Took a trip to pick up a milling machine, 600 miles round trip in a day, towing a ~6,000 lb trailer.
Each of those I was able to do with minimal stopping (only the milling machine had a fuel stop, and only just needed it!), and I was still getting 14-15mpg or so on each.
That said, most of those I won't end up doing again any time soon, but if the need ever re-arose, I would consider another diesel pickup. As far as a gas F150? I don't think I'd ever be tempted.
With a bed liner, this should be easy. Of course, your F-250 may have a larger bed. However, 6-7K lbs of gravel is easy for Lightnings.-Routinely hauled gravel in the back, maxing out the F250's bed capacity. (its about 6-7k lbs)
Should be a piece of cake.-Took a trip to pickup a surface grinder on short-notice, so put a 5k machine in the bed, 130miles round trip.
This is quite doable but would require charging time.-Took a trip to pick up a milling machine, 600 miles round trip in a day, towing a ~6,000 lb trailer.
F-250 time for sure. 10,000 lb is the max trailer weight for an ER with the max tow package.-Took a trip to pick up a large 'metal shaper', 300 miles round trip, with a 16,000lb trailer on the way back.
Yes, 2 yards of gravel is about 5800 lbs. But you were at least a 1500 lbs over the capacity of the max an F250 can have at 4260 (Regular cab, 2wd, long bed).Isn't the max bed capacity of the lightning 2000 lbs or something? The 6k of gravel (a little more than 2 yards is about the bed capacity is the F250...) To do the gravel, I'd likely need to pick up a trailer.
Just to point out that a 10,000 lb capacity dump trailer will itself likely weigh over 4000 lbs. So the total being towed would be over 14,000 lbs. You will be limited to stay under 10,000 lbs GVWR, so the payload capacity will only be around 6000lbs.No. I wouldn't dump a load of anything into the truck bed anyway. I have a small 5x8 trailer that handles those duties. I am thinking of getting an 6x10 dump trailer with 10,000 pound capacity for heavy haul duties. Still thinking on that. I don't have a camper so road trip range is no issue for me either.
You are right. The trailer is 10,000# GVWR. No worriesJust to point out that a 10,000 lb capacity dump trailer will itself likely weigh over 4000 lbs.
