I've been on the hunt for a mannequin Lightning. So far all the Pro's have been spoken for but I've had the chance to put a deposit on a couple of XLTs but at pricing in the high 60's.

I'm trying to understand if the ~$12-15k upcharge for the XLT is worth it. The cloth seats are a detriment to me as I have kids and dogs and the vinyl will be much easier to clean. What other features do people like on the XLT over the Pro?

If this has been discussed please point me in the right direction!

Thanks!

I actually wanted the cloth seats. It’s harder to clean yes, but I don’t have kids. In my experience they get less hot or cold during the seasons, that means I would also spend less energy heating or cooling them when I get in the car. I believe the PRO doesn’t come with running boards, I wanted that in my truck. Other than that, the PRO ran out of stock before a lot of people could order it. It’s the most value for the money out of all the trims in my opinion.

Makes sense on the seats, I do wish the Pro had heated seats but again for the price you can't have everything.

Running boards would be nice to have as well. Hoping there are or will be some aftermarket options that I can add.

Like most, it will likely be a long wait for me to get a Pro unless I'm willing to pay a dealer markup. The only one I had a shot at the dealer wanted $25k over sticker on a $43k truck. I passed and it sold the next day so there are people out there willing to spend for them.

Unless I was purely using it as a work truck for my business, whether full time or side, the pro is not comfortable. You can't adjust on the same level as the the rest of the trims. If I'm remembering correctly, the pedals/steering wheel/seat won't adjust enough for everyone. I sat in a Pro and while it was ok for the short test drive, I wouldn't want to sit in it for a long period of time.

The difference is actually just 7k not the 10k+. The seats and updated interior and I believe the active 3.0. If you do a build of the pro and put in the base features you get in an XLT SR you come within 7k.

I hear you on the adjustability. During my Pro test drive I was able to get the steering wheel perfect, the seat adjustment was doable but it not amazing and electric would be nice.

What’s the difference between Active and Assist?

BlueCruise mainly. Not sure what if that also include lane keep. I would hope Assist still has Adaptive CC. That would be enough for me not to get anything that doesn't have ACC.

My understanding from the Ford 'compare' site is that the Pro still comes with running boards. See here:

Under 'exterior', Pro lists "Running Boards", but the XLT and up also list "Carbon Black Fixed Extended Running Board w/ Enhanced Lighting"

unfortunately, the PRO lacks running boards, as attested by those who've received their's, and one I took a look at both in San Antonio at the Ford Drive Event, and at a dealer who had just received one. The cost for your own can be as little as a couple of hundred dollars - no biggie. Install yourself.

they don't show in the comparison website photo, either.

Thanks! I was confused by that, but figured maybe they were just subtle in the pictures of the pros I saw. I see that a really good set of running boards is only $1000 and easy enough to install, so it wouldn't be enough to make me go XLT over Pro. The 'available for purchase' is likely what is going to decide for me.

Got it.
The XLT doesn’t get BlueCruise. I don’t think it’s even an option under the Lariat
The Lariat gets BlueCruise. It'll never say BlueCruise on the page, it is under Active 2.0 360, whatever they call it.

The Lariat can OPTION the 'Active/BlueCruise' feature, with the 511A package, with the ER, but NOT with the 510A package, with the SR battery pack. It's just the way Ford 'steps up' the amenities for the maximum sales price.

and, running board options aren't anywhere NEAR $1,000...

Ah, sorry, the $1000 is for the extra fancy running boards to put on a pro, like these ones: F-150 Crew Cab 2015-2022 Off-Road Running Board

I extended my reservation in hopes of getting a pro. I don't see the value in paying an extra $13k for the XLT. You could add a lot of the XLT features after market for half that price.
I could’ve got an XLT in wave 2 but wanted a Pro since you can add the running boards after market and the front hood LED wasn’t a personal preference and also I didn’t need a truck immediately. I also have 3 young kids and pets so Vinyl was key too. I honestly feel like I saved $13k a model I’d prefer over the XLT

You sound a lot like my situation. Not in a hurry and have pets and kids. Pro all the way for me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm starting to have second thoughts about not pulling the trigger on an XLT.

You can get slip-on protective covers for the seats. I have friends who swear by Wet Okole covers. That will protect nicer seats from kids and dogs. Going the other way, there are after-market seat heaters you could use on the Pro.
