I posted the prior thread....

I can't believe after 3+ years of this process form ordering the Rivian, then the Ford just over a year ago, figured I would probably take whichever arrived first.

The updates keep coming and it feels like they're battling each other.

Received my 8 step process from Rivian and told that means it just came off the production line and is 4 weeks to delivery.
Received my update from Ford this morning that truck is built and estimated 4-5 weeks to delivery.

Amazing how they're coming down almost to the exact same day?

Just for fun, take your pick, who wins in the race of getting to my driveway first?

Do you plan to keep both?

I've been teeter-tottering on a decision between the two for over a year. Two different trucks for two different uses. I convince myself of one, then it changes. I pretty came down to whichever arrives first, which appeared was going to be the Ford by a mile. By pure coincidence, they're both coming at nearly the exact same time. So, I guess I'm very fortunate in the fact that I'll be able to get them both side by side and drive them for a week or two and FINALLY make a decision. Will then sell one of them.

Wow, we're on the exact same Rivian time line anyway. Just completed my 8-steps this morning. Delivery scheduled for next week. Hearing many Rivian deliveries get delayed for one reason or another, so not calling a winner at this point. If it gets delivered, then it will actually be the Ford by 3-4 weeks. Rivian told me last week my truck just came off the production line with an estimated 4 weeks to delivery, so appeared they would arrive within a few days of each other. Then got the 8-step process on Friday, which seemed odd that it came so soon. Today, they called and said the truck is in California undergoing final inspections and ready for delivery. I was shocked. Could have driven a ways to pick it up on Friday, but figured it was better to let them deliver it to me on a flat bed at home just a few days later.

As per guide truck is on the way to California as we speak but will take few weeks for inspection and delivery. Once ready I am going to pick up from local Rivian space 20 minutes drive from me.
As I requested if he can find a launch edition in mean time and he was able to find one, Will let me know if it is not spoken for or held for some damage in transportation. If all go well that truck is just an hour drive sitting on Rivian space.

Another quick question.
Does your Rivian account still show 8 steps and waiting for 8th step to be completed.
After talkin to my guide about LE truck my 8 steps are gone from my account. I only see a message your configuration is complete.

My 8-step process opened up to me late last week. Per the guide however, the truck was just coming off the production line and no rush to complete the 8-steps. Then, Tuesday after the holiday, got a call from El Segundo that the truck was going through final inspection and ready for delivery this week. If I wanted to drive down there, could have picked it up this week. I opted for the home delivery instead on Tuesday. Was only a 3 day difference

So clearly the guide's information was outdated. Once El Segundo called, I went in and completed the 8 steps in about 15 minutes. All 8 steps are shown as complete. Delivery date has been scheduled. If your truck is still in Illinois, then you likely won't be able to complete all 8-steps. Delivery date needs to be set before they'll let you finish it. I've read that they only open the 8-step process when the truck is within a week or two of delivery. So, if you already have them, be ready, because your guide may also be working off of outdated info. Truck might already be in California. The delivery location will reach out to you when its arrived.

And I did the same thing. They called me a few weeks ago that my number was up and to complete my configuration. Then he looked around for other options that might be available sooner. Apparently, that's only offered once your truck is ready to go into production. Thus not everyone with a reservation can call to search for a truck that might be available. I went from an Adventure Package truck to a Launch Edition. They searched for something in California already, but nothing that suited my preferences was available at that time. A whole lot of Launch Green and Blue trucks available. I think a lot of people didn't realize they could change their color when ordering the Launch Edition in the early days. He did find one that was apparently just coming off the production line that was close and switched me to that particular truck. Assuming, trucks that were built and orders cancelled, thus are now unspoken for. Got locked into the new configuration about two and a half weeks ago. Took about a week and a half for my VIN number to get published to my account, which was also the same date the 8-step process opened up. Delivery is now scheduled for next week.

If your 8-steps disappeared, that means the truck you originally had coming is now back in the pool and will have to wait for whatever Truck you get assigned to. In this case, time wise, sounds like it might have been a step backwards. If you had the 8-step process opened, you were likely within a 2 week window of that truck coming. Stay on top of your guide to get reassigned to another VIN number ASAP. Might be too late, but if time is of importance to you, might ask him/her if you can get put back on your original truck? Probably already reassigned though.

Would check with your guide to see if you got assigned to the Launch Edition. Hopefully, by him/her removing your original configuration, means you already got assigned to the new truck. If that truck is in California already, then you could likely take delivery in the next week or so. The Launch Edition had a few perks included, so my price actually came down a little bit with more options added. So even if you are delayed, probably worth the extra wait.

It's good that your account says configuration confirmed. Does it say for a Launch Edition? If so, then that means one way or the other, you will get a Launch Edition and, at worst, are in line for one of the next trucks off the production line. The unknown is if you got assigned to the existing truck he/she referred to. If not, then you'll get one of the next ones off the line. If it's the latter, then you're about 4-5 weeks out. If its the former, then you're about a week, two at most, away from delivery.

Hope all that helps.

Oh, great, so you have the VIN. That's good news. Heads-up, figure out your insurance. Rivian was quite high in their quote for me at least. Rivian will want proof of coverage prior to allowing you to complete the 8 steps. You can get your insurance company to get started, then bind it once you have the delivery date and have them send you proof / id card to upload to Rivian. Unless Rivian / Nationwide gives you a reasonable quote and you choose to go with them. That and uploading your license are the only documents you need to upload. Rest is pretty easy. If you're financing through them, that's an easy quick app process as well. If you're getting outside financing, that will increase the complexity of completing the 8 steps. If through Rivian, it gets approved instantly, they present you with the financing offer. Accept, sign digitally and done. Digital check applied for the down payment.

If you have the VIN and the guide was accurate, you can probably expect the 8 steps to pop up in the next few days / week. Since you're picking up at their location, likely will be able to schedule it for delivery as early as 3-4 days from the date they contact you, which comes within a week of the 8-steps.

Rivian insurance is 20% more than Gieco. To keep evey thing simple and quick I went with rivian insurance written by Nationwide. All in place already so I might be driving Rivian in next few days. 🤞

That's not too bad. I have Mercury and they seemed to hate Tesla's. My rate was astronomical with them. When Tesla started offering insurance, it was over 50% less. Feared that they would be the same with the Rivian. However, either I got lucky and they haven't figured out how costly they'll be to repair them yet, or they've just gotten more reasonable? In any case, they were almost exactly 50% cheaper than Rivian quoted. Rivian was right at $2,100 for 6 months. Just over $1,000 through my Mercury policy. Clean record, long driving history, but in Los Angeles.

I don't know if it will still be the same, but I quote from them at the beginning of April for the Lightning and it was only $693. But, I think they assumed it was just a regular F-150. Wish I could have locked it in. Have a feeling it will be higher when the time comes. Wouldn't expect it to be more than the Rivian though.

Maybe I'll just keep them both and put the Ford in the garage and leave it as a home battery source to live off grid. Still cheaper than it would be to buy Tesla power walls that would have far less battery capacity!
