I’m using PaaK exclusively and am really enjoying not needing to carry a fob.
However, I’ve been surprised to experience PaaK works even when the Ford app is not open or running in the background. I thought it would have to be.
Is this normal functionality for PaaK? Is it just about my phone’s Bluetooth signal proximity, not the app?

I'm using PaaK exclusively. Haven't used the fob since the OTA. No real issues other than occasionally having a delay for the BT to connect.

It's not required but if you unlock your phone/open the FordPass app it seems to speed the connection with the truck. Just like the key fob, you can lock your phone in the truck with the key pad.

This is useful when kayaking, etc and you may not want to bring your phone. I use the key pad way more than I thought I would.

Zero issues with paak on my Lighting since day 1. I carry no key and i even got a phone case with card slots to ditch my wallet just to unload all my pockets lol. Also, no issues on wife's Mach E with paak. I do have to switch in the Ford app between the 2 vehicles when I want to drive her car. I do not have to have the app open on the phone to unlock or start either vehicle. I have also setup my door code and set a start password in the event something is wrong with the phone but have never had to use it. I do wish my Lighting did auto lock on walk away like the Mach E. Hopefully that's an update.

It has been flawless for me, but I only use it locally. The spare tire is locked, and the backup key to unlock the front door if the 12v battery goes Tango Uniform make me nervous when away from home any distance.

I'm still in the "PaaK?" stage waiting for an update to unleash it.
Mine has been working great since I got Priority Update 22-PU0929-BLM-UP on the 11th. The only trick is that I have to select the right key in Ford Pass (I also have a Mach E and use PaaK on both now).

Ok can you explain this a little more. It’s good stuff but want make sure I understand. Are you hiding the fobless key? Is this what you mean by backup key? In a magnetic key holder under the truck? Because the door code requires 12v battery functionality? Then once inside the cabin use the password to drive because 12v not required?
And you have a wheel lock nut on spare tire? Is spare theft a risk I suppose?

I can't answer most of those for @Ducman but the Lightning has a lock on the slot where you insert the rod to crank down the spare. It uses the same "key" out of the fob as you use to lock the glove box, armrest, and back seat. The truck comes with a spare of this key. I keep mine in the truck.

The FOB has a key that slides out. You also have a backup key. The drivers door has a key slot. If the 12V battery takes a complete nose dive, I think the only way into the truck is to use the physical key to unlock the drivers door. Then you could do a manual release of the trunk, and eventually get a jump start.

How low can the 12V go and still unlock the doors? I don’t know, but I don’t want to find out. So when I am away from home, and retrieving the FOB would be a major PITA I carry the fob. Running to the grocery store, making a garbage run, PAAK.

As always, I could be wrong on most everything I have just said. But I think I’m more correct than not.

We have heard from recent buyers that the later truck builds have PaaK (Phone as a Key) installed from the factory. For those of you that have PaaK and have linked your phones, is anyone using PaaK exclusively, not carrying the fob at all? How is it working for you?

I don't carry the key fob for my Mustang Mach E. In fact, it was one of the early deliveries that only came with one fob. I love PaaK, although it has some limitations.

What are people finding in using PaaK on their Lightning?
I’ve been using PaaK exclusively for about 3 weeks now. I was hesitant in the beginning until I set and tested the entry access and start passwords. PaaK is pretty convenient and has the added benefit of helping me remember to take my phone with me when I park as the single button “lock” on the exterior door handle won’t lock the doors if the phone is still inside. That’s handy for me because I’ve inadvertently left my phone on the charging surface inside the truck on several occasions when I didn’t intend to. Out of sight out of mind. 🙄

All of my trips using PaaK have been local and I’ll probably take the key fob with me if I set off on a long distance journey.

Side note/question: Once PaaK was installed a few additional options appeared on the FordPass app, but one I keep hearing about (and don’t seem to have) is the ability to open the windows using the app. Does anyone have this feature? I would love to open the windows remotely on a hot day before getting in the truck.

I also wish it had walk-away lock. i can’t tell you how many times I forgot to lock my truck since I was so used to the walk-away lock on my Model 3.
