I went hunting in my menus and settings for anyway to use the built in cameras as a dashcam, but failed to find anything. I'm assuming there is no such options at this time.

So I was wondering what others are doing with there lightnings, there a go to brand that works good on F150s? Ford has one on their accessories site, doesn't seam particularly unique?

Not near that advanced and truly not enough compute power to process and record all the cameras at once. Maybe when they reengineer from the ground up they will look forward a bit.

As far as what to buy - I've asked a couple of places - Blackvue gets good reviews, but I won't invest that much, another recommendation was for the Cobra model.

I finally narrowed it down to the Vantrue N4 3 Channel and a newer brand Rove R3 which is also 3 channel. I went with the Rove R3 on Prime Day - 1/2 price. US made and supported. I like the form factor and they have an app for each download which Vantrue does not have. Neither of these are cloud based, so you have a risk of the camera itself being stolen and no footage.

I wanted a three channel to try and catch activity outside the truck on the sides. I've never had one before the Tesla and that was built in and a big freebie upgrade that Tesla added after I bought the car, but the main reason is the EV hate, or at least Tesla hate. Just go Google Tesla getting keyed and you'll find hundreds if not thousands of dash cam action of it happening and many of the people were caught - had no idea the Tesla was recording them.

Serious Q: Other than preventing insurance fraud around accidents, what is the appeal of a dash cam?
It’s not just insurance fraud it’s simple disputes over who is at fault. I had someone make a right on red without looking while I had green. I attempted to avoid the collision but ended up clipping the rear quarter of the car that pulled in front of me. When the police arrived the other driver simply claimed they had the green so the officer had no evidence to make a fault determination. If I had the camera it would have been simple and I wouldn’t have had to make a claim on my insurance
Basically good for any situation where you want video to counter a liar whether it’s an at fault driver or a bogus ticket.
Of course, if you are the crappy driver maybe it’s not such a good idea.

I use a Vantru N2 Pro with the GPS mount. Relatively inexpensive and has both forward and driver facing cameras. It lacks WiFi to download videos to phone and a dedicated rear cam but it works for me. Video quality is good.

I believe all cars should have front and rear cams as standard features for accident investigations. Many vehicles already have the cameras installed, so it’d be easy to do. For non accident usage we‘d obviously want to require a warrant process for PD to access.

I run Blackvue cameras in our work fleet, and some cheaper Aukey cameras in my own vehicles. Both get the job done to prevent fraud. I’ve had several close calls that were captured on the dashcam, including a Porsche SUV passing illegally on a narrow 2 lane highway. I almost lost control swerving to avoid them at 70 mph (posted limit), had I wrecked onto the shoulder I could’ve used the footage to plead not at fault with insurance. If we went head on at least my wife could see how I died.

Here are a couple clips from my cam. Unfortunately in the first video I hit the curb scratching my front bumper and curbing my rim.
