Weird Delivery Issues. Anyone Else? Why can't they tell me where my vehicle is?

Hello All,

I ordered my Lightning Lariat back in April, Blend Date was 07/28, Built Date was 08/28 and Estimated Delivery date was originally 09/17.

On 09/14 my dealer called to tell me my truck had just arrived by rail a few miles from the dealership, so they wanted to prepare me for taking delivery. By the next week, I received an email from Ford stating that my Lightning had a new estimated delivery of 10/10 to 10/16 in an effort "to ensure your complete satisfaction".

Since then, I have asked my dealer to try to figure out what has happened and where it is, but they aren't able to tell me anything. I sold my old vehicle in September right after the dealer told me it had arrived by rail as I had been ready to take advantage of the used car market pricing, and now I am Ubering to get anywhere. I don't mean to be impatient, but it seems incredibly odd they are unable to give me any details about where my $80K+ Lightning is, and definitively when it will be delivered, not just "estimated"? I'm approaching my new "estimated" delivery week, and my dealer still can't tell me any updates.

Does anyone have a similar experience or any knowledge of why they can't locate or tell me about my truck that was supposedly already delivered to the railyard 3.5 weeks ago? I'm obviously excited and eager to get my truck and I'm a pretty patient guy, but I'm spending a lot of money and inconvenience on Uber right now. Just a little bit of direct information about the delivery would calm my angst.

Thanks!

Not sure of your location, but for trucks received in the SF Bay area, from the rail yard to the dealer they use United Road hauling (maybe that's everywhere, too). The link below worked for me to at least confirm that I was in their system and had the right dealer to deliver to. Otherwise, had no other useful info. Supposedly the Dealer gets much more detailed info from the trucking agency. You might try this link and see if your VIN is identified, then tell the Dealer to get in contact with them. The United Road hauling site also had a customer portal. It's primarily for dealers but on another post one person was able to get access via the dealer and it had much more info.

Good luck.
I had a similar issue happing with my Lightning delivery, and this is in the SF Bay Area.

Production was the first week of Aug, it was supposed to land at dealership in the first week of Sept. Ended up taking delivery in the last week of Sept.
I really had to pressure the dealer to get some answers, and to finally take delivery.

It turned out that my truck was damaged by the truck drivers (or handlers) that transport from the Richmond rail-yard to the dealership in Bay Area. The truck had some scratched lower facia components and a cracked plastic part from bumping the car in front. The truck was sitting at a body shop contracted by the dealership while they waited for parts from the factory. Since the damage happened in transport, they had to correct everything and make the truck like new. In my situation, it sat for 2.5weeks, and I had to escalate at the dealership to get answers. In fact, I pressured the dealer to let me take delivery while they waited for the parts to come in (My wife and I had a roadtrip going through Yosemite into the eastern Sierra). The parts ended up arriving two days after I took delivery, and I brought it back to the body shop, they snapped the parts back on the truck in about 40mins.

I spoke with the inventory manager at the dealership and he said that nearly 50% of the cars are coming in with some sort of body damage. (possibly an exaggeration) He attributes it to all the experienced truck drivers having retired and the new trainees lacking experience and playing bumper cars with $80k vehicles.

I would recommend you talk to the inventory manager and keep asking for escalation until you get answers, call everyday. Be the squeaky wheel.

Did you try these tools?
Hey tmbev. Did you get your vehicle?

We had a built date of 12/23 and an original delivery window of the week of 1/3/2023. Each Thursday the delivery window has been pushed back. Eventually we received a shipped date of 1/30. Since being notified the vehicle has been shipped, this is the third Thursday in a row the delivery window has been pushed back another week. Today it is displayed as the week of 2/14.

Google maps states it would have taken me 7 days and 15 hours to walk to Michigan to pick up the truck. In hindsight, it looks like it may have been a better option than waiting for a convoy delivery.

I was supposed to have an original delivery date of 12/ 30 - 1/3. Last date was 2/3. Now I get nothing.

I am canceling my order. I had a dealer call with 2 new on the lot at MSRP and a few others when I search going for MSRP. The value is tanking fast as inventory shows up I am guessing due to orders that are canceled.

Best of luck to you. We have 5 dealerships in our area. There is one 2022 on a lot and they are asking $6K over MSRP. It doesn't look like we are in the same situation here as you are in your area.
