I use Turbotax for my taxes, and the EV credit update was supposed to be available yesterday . . . well, it DID update and let me enter all my information for the 2022 tax credit BUT, when I did the review, I got this message:

So is the form truly not available and approved? I wanted to get my taxes done ASAP to get the credit.

The 2/2/23 'available to file' date was in there at Christmastime. Tax filing season does not begin until January 24th when the IRS starts accepting 2022 returns. Edit: TurboTax says that eFile is available now

I completed the TurboTax 8936 questions yesterday, too.

Doing my taxes early also with H&R Block. IRS will update Form 8936 on 2-3-2023. We will have to wait until the form updates until we can complete and file our taxes. Thanks, Walt

Walt, does H&R also have the form to get the Fed credit for home EVSE (charger) - Form 8911 I believe?

Thanks for your response. I will check on Form 8911. I printed it out and it appears to be geared toward business/investment use but I would like to use it if I can get a credit for 30% of my install cost for my charger which was $1200. Will let you know what I find out. Thanks, Walt

It's Form 8911, starting on Line 1, credit on 11, 12, 13. There's business and mixed use stuff in between. The tax sotware will probably have a bunch of questions.

The tax credit for home charging was reinstated for 2022–> in the Inflation Reduction Act. IIRC, it had not been renewed for 2022 when it expired 12/31/21. I don't know your situation, but you're probably eligible.

I've been using a cloud tax software for almost 20 years & it took $15k - 2 EV's - in credits & was IRS accepted last week - small refund deposit to my checking account as usual.

Software for me - cloud based direct e-filing

- generated the 8936 form - 2 x $7500 & it was accepted by the IRS 2 weeks ago - $334 refund coming in a week or two given IRS timelines

Hello. Asked Jon Love previously for the name of the "Cloud Based Tax Software" that he used that generated the 8936 form and allowed him to file for the tax credit. No response. Now I see another post with a pic of the vehicles but again no mention of the name of the software. Is this a secret? Will black helicopters be coming if the name of the software is given??? LOL!!!

When I googled "Cloud based tax software" the name "Tax Slayer" came up. Maybe that is what is being referring to?

The software is proprietary with our investment LLC & it uses a Bloomberg interface. Key thing seems to be that Turbo Tax/others bundle their information a different way & pause use of that 8936 form - whereas others invoke it & get IRS acceptance earlier. However - it may be well into February (hopefully next week though) before the IRS finalizes processing 8936s & even much longer before it codifies the Inflation Reduction Act pertaining to EVs/green offsets. PS - sold that '22 MME (seemed too small/uneven ride) for profit & love the '23 Lightning.
