Hey all,
Just curious what you’re all getting for range in your extended battery for your ford lightning ? I’ve got 5000 miles on mine so far and only getting about 265 miles on a charge. Would love to hear what you guys are getting ? Thanks

Long Island owner here. I picked it up yesterday. Frequently drive to Florida, sometimes with a camper, will see how it works out for that

I've been driving the F-150 Lightning for three months. It's great.

The longest trip I've taken is about 80 miles each way, so no need to charge on the go so far. I've also used public chargers just to understand the experience. That's a mixed bag. When it works, great. In fact, charging stations are usually put in the best parking spaces! Too often, however, the stations have not been functioning. One place (Saratoga, NY) the location had three non-functioning chargers (I was jealous of the Tesla that was humming along on the dedicated charger just fine!).

Range is what range is. In the northeast, we are so close to so much that it matters a lot less than the spread out rest of the country. This weekend I am intentionally taking a trip that will require on the road charging, just to become familiar with all the nuances of that experience. In the spring, I will take the ultimate test trip to Cape Cod (on a holiday weekend). I am anticipating charger availability issues, but who knows, maybe by then the network and maintenance of it will have filled out some.

Seeing other F150 Lightnings on the road reminds me of those folks with exotic cars seeing their counterparts. It's a thrill. I've yet to have a face to face conversation with another owner so this forum is so important.

Happy um motoring!

I picked up my ER Lariat 7-30-22 and did a NJ to FL round trip. Overall about 4400 miles and I still love it. I'm a Giants season ticket holder and this has been the best tailgate truck because we no longer our gas generator to power appliances and TVs. The drunk has also added some security to storing items. Overall, the EV pickup experience has been better than I thought.

Quick Follow Up Regarding Public Charging
We did a Christmas shopping round trip this weekend of about 300 miles in total. This is the first time I ventured out knowing I would need a charge. The Ford provided map was pretty good, recommending that we stop at a convenience store half way between the first and second stops for about 20 minutes. It would have then required another brief stop to complete the journey. Foolishly, I did not follow the prompts but instead wrongly hoped for reasonable chargers at destinations (an outlet mall and a regional mall). The outlet mall (Lee, MA) had no chargers, though there were some across the road (about .5 miles away) at a supermarket.

We did not charge there, but ventured onward. Being certain there would be chargers at the regional mall, we skipped by the chargers recommended on the Ford app.

Mistake.

When we arrived at the destination, the estimate was only 34 more miles on the battery. There were indeed chargers at the regional mall, but they were Level 2 and slow Level 2 chargers at that! Killing extra time at the mall, we were hoping for enough juice to get to a Fast Charger along the route home. Two hours later, we added just about 15 miles, not nearly enough, especially when the first five would be chewed up with heating the cabin and battery.

A search of multiple apps brought us to two new locations, neither of which were functioning (and it was getting cold out there talking through customer service unsuccessfully, not to mention one very unhappy passenger!). We made a slight detour, actually backtracking to the Ford suggested charger we previously skipped. After a few more fits and starts, we landed at recommended spot. The first supercharger was not functioning. Another round with a new customer service team associated with a different company than the other broken chargers and we finally got started. Once up and running, we moved from about 22% to 82% in just under 40 minutes. Up around 80% two charging errors appeared, but they were ignored as it was time to go home, now about two and a half hours later than we expected.

The fees at the slow charger were .25/kwh and at the fast charger .329/kwh.

Lessons learned:
1. Follow the Apps! If we did not skip by the first recommended charger, there would have been plenty of juice to prevent range anxiety, though not enough to make it all the way home.
2. Expect slow and broken chargers (and app problems too).
3. Dress appropriately while publicly charging (it gets cold quick in the NEast).
4. It's not easy to insert and reinsert chargers with a cell phone in your other hand as you deal with customer service.
5. Prepare for a much longer journey than expected.
6. I still love the truck!

You forgot; use plugshare. If you are trusting Ford on the chargers, you don't know what are you are doing.

You can also browse through chargers on the Ford Nav app, not as good as plug share but you can scroll through them and limit it to fast chargers. When doing so the Nav should put a perimeter on the display showing how far it thinks you can travel.
