I have a reservation from Oct/21 (11280105) at a well regarded dealership in NJ, who does not charge ADM, and I got the "sorry not this year" email from Ford. So I reached out to my service advisor, to actually inquire about a Mach-E, thinking it maybe easier to get, and to my surprise he tells me he just had an order cancellation for a Lariat SR (w/ Co-Pilot Active) and that I could take it over if I accepted the build as-is. He would honor MSRP plus a $454 doc fee.

A few hours and $1000 later- I have a VIN, order number and a build date of 5/30.

I must have just been in the right place at the right time??

It's odd because my reservation status has not changed, but I can use the VIN and order number to get status of the build. Something doesn't seem quite... right? Ask no question?

They might still have it attached to the original reservation/customer number, I would not be concerned. Maybe corporate will be able to move the build order to your reservation number later.

I think they need to produce documentation from the original buyer requesting to cancel, as they prepare to deliver it to you.

Are they going to give you credit for the first $100 deposit on your original order? They should, but they might not want you to cancel your own reservation as that is working in their favor for MY23 allocations so they can roll that to another customer, but you should still get credit for the funds already paid.

They said they would give me $100 credit, but I'm also not gonna pass up the truck if they dont.

Appreciate the feedback.

I think on Ford's side, the truck you now can purchase is still tied to that other individual's reservation (it's a build number to them, not tied to a unique buyer account, etc.). Your original reservation still exists on their side, so you'd get a chance to order a truck on your reservation later as well. Good for you! I'm in the 5/23 build week, and I'm getting very excited now.

Hope they are good on their word and it all works out. With a VIN and an order number anyone can track any order so that shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure if they can truly get the truck assigned to your account, but that would be nice.

I don't think I'd worry about your $100, you'll get that back automatically when you eventually cancel your current order. I would never cancel that order however until you have this truck in hand.

Spoke with the dealer today was told my 5/30 build date is now 6/10.

How confident should I be?

Congrats!
If you still have your original reservation on file. You can take home this Lariat and enjoy it until Ford calls you to order the one for your original reservation. Then you can sell or trade in the Lariat for a profit which helps pay for the truck you really wanted.
Win win situation.

Dealer came back to me and gave me the option of ordering another 2022 or waiting for 2023 under my original reservation. I'm thinking I will wait for 2023 and maybe get to order a Platinum, which is what I wanted to get upfront.

Would love to know the dealer as I am looking to move my reservation to someone else in NJ
My dealer has 25 on the books for reservations the first 3 orders 2 turned them down and one took the order Ford took back the two who turned them down and wouldn’t let them he next two inline to take them. I’m in the middle of the 25.

As I get closer to taking delivery of this order, I am now in the "Shipped" state, I have come to find that my dealership is changing ownerships. I have been contacted by my sales representative and assured that nothing will change, but I cannot help but be concerned given they never updated my reservation for this order take-over. The only documentation I have is the $1000 order deposit I submitted to the old ownership group. We decided to go this route because it kept my reservation open for the possibility of a second order. The new ownership group is well known, and has a positive reputation, but I am still concerned.

So far so good! Spoke w/ the GM today and he let me preview the vehicle right after it came off the truck. No paperwork yet, but seems like everything is still as agreed.
