I want a tanneau. My max budget is $400. What's my best option?
I can't imagine how many sites/places there are to look for covers. It really depends on current sales events. You could luck out. (I can get kind of impatient).

AmericanTrucks is one I've used to check some out because I have used AmericanMuscle so much for my mustang. I didn't order from AmericanTrucks but it can give you and idea. I ended up with Rough Country because I thought retractable were all way more expensive. The Tri-Fold I had in mind was the same price as the retractable I got. Although I wish I had known about Perragon.

The latest BAK Revolver X4S version has fixed the design issues with the earlier models.

Ok, I kinda like this one. I ordered my Lariat last week and I added the... TONNEAU COVER-RETRACTABLE*ACCY $2200. It's a really cool cover but it has a big permanently fixed box that the cover retracts into and takes up a huge about of space at the back of the truck bed so I'm going to call my dealer and remove that accessory and keep that 2,200 in my pocket and pick up one of these.

Thanks for sharing this, REDHORSECA

I called my dealer and he tried but couldn't remove the tonneau cover. He said the system couldn't go in and make any amendments. I only ordered 6 days ago but he said it looks to be about to go in the production phase already.

Is there any way to get the tonneau cover accessory removed from the order? Something like that is probably the very last accessory to be installed on the truck.

Hmm. Dealer probably lacks the power to make that change. You might want to reach out to ford directly.

He said that he can make changes like that, right in his system. He even tried changing the color and it said No. He was surprised that that happened so quickly but he said he makes changes all of the time for customers. He said as long as it's not in production yet, he can usually make changes to the order.

I'm going to try your suggestion and try to reach out to Ford in the morning.

Thanks.

The Bak trifold I put on my 2013 F150 is about dead. Some of the riveted hinge crossbars have come out. The truck lives outdoors and the foam in the panels has become very heavy from rain.

I just ordered the Bac Revolver for my new Lightning. The rolled up cover will be on top rather than down in the box. I like that the Revolver has lots of aluminum crossbars. picking up the new truck 12/27.

I bought the same BAK Revolver X4S. It's in the box, sitting in my garage waiting for my Lightning delivery hopefully in February or March. They look like really nice, solid covers.

The truck I traded when I bought my Lightning was a Ram 2500 Cummins diesel with a 6.5' bed. When I bought the Ram it came with a Leer trifold (unit # HF350M) which worked quite well. I never would have purchased a tonneau on my own but once I had one I came to see the benefits -- locking valuables in the bed, transporting loose items without worrying about wind, etc.

I very much liked the unit and when I needed a replacement plastic part, Leer mailed it to me for free. Anyone else have experience with Leer tonneaus?

TIA.

I have had an F150 for about 10 years now, not going back to a sedan. I own a machine shop and fabrication factuality , so I am regularly tossing large awkward things in the back of the truck.
I have always liked the idea of the tonneau , keep things sleek and covered, but I fear the hot tub lid situation, where you have to manipulate and store some big flap panel thing. What say you guys about tonneaus and their actual use age. Is it a pain in the ass? Do you guys have the roll up version or the pop up lid? Talk to me
I use the trifold type and have no problems. I also used one on my old truck and I loved it too.

Depending on just how often you might need to carry bulky stuff, I would still recommend a 1-piece "hot tub cover". On my Titan XD I had a 6'5" undercover SE one-piece. Benefit of Undercover is that it weighs so much less than the alternitives. If push-comes-to-shove, you could take it off yourself, hang it on a wall, and lug your bulky items around. Kept my truck bed totally dry, never had to worry about tools, etc. rusting. Just my $0.02

I ordered a new tri fold cover ( signature level) because I have one on my 2001 F150 and it still looks almost new and it is 25 years old.
I did have a problem after about 10 years and called about a new hinge. The answer was a new hinge was sent to me at no charge because it is warranties it covers for life. The Extang 2.0 is the best cover on the market. It has a canvas ( like a convertible top) on one side and vinyl on the bottom.
You can’t beat it!
I hope this helps.
