I purchased the Ford hard roll up cover. I was going to have them install but the shop was busy. I brought it home and installed it myself. Pretty easy and it looks as good as CDT's.

I just installed the hard folding cover (Ford sells them as OEM but they are made by REV). This is the standard 2015-2022 F-150 version and it’s a perfect fit for the Lightning. Very happy with how it came out.
I didn’t install the provided drain tubes. I have a spray-in bedliner and as per the instructions you only need them if you have a drop in-bedliner. (I could be wrong about this.)
It works with the power tailgate which you can still operate without having to pop the cover.
The part number is VML3Z84501A42B. Apparently they are hard to get but my local dealer had one in the area and was able to get it by the next day.

Definitely run those tubes in my experience. That bedcover should keep most things dry, but running those tubes ensures it drains almost completely. YMMV.

Are any of these tonneau covers compatible with a rail system to allow for racks, and if so, which racks? I have lots of Yakima hardware/mounts and would like to stick with them after buying appropriate towers. Was hoping for the type of towers that can be slid along rails on the bed sides.
Thanks!

I ordered a hard cover that folds into four and sits on the top of the bed rail for this very reason. I can put my rack on when I want it and take it off when I don't need it. There are covers with a tonneau mount but they're pricey and I alreay had the rack.

I've seen pictures of a Lightning with a Diamondback SE cover and a Front Runner load system installed holding a Thule box.

Pictures (Flickr album) of my evening installation of the BAK Revolver X4s that might show a couple of different angles and details:

Came out nice in a couple of hours, thanks to a good fit to the Lightning bed with the Bak quality. Nice that Ford has quality control of the bed as well. I will need to add a few photos taken during the day to show it better.

Got it from Amazon for under $1K on a special discount day 11-15 via RealTrucks. But search for other thread references for possible retailers that might give an even better deal.

Follow the install directions carefully, it should roll easily and lock nicely. If it looks weird, do not force it, it might be that the wrong size was sent. Quality control vs. keeping costs down. How does a company keep continuity on that with Covid absences, etc.

Next, I will install a Napier Sportz bed tent and see if it fits with the cover rolled up and with all the rails.

A little late with the reply here, but I just found the Elevate rails that work with a host of tonneau covers - in particular the BAK MX4 or G2 - https://truxedo.com/elevate-ts-rails/2023/ford/f-150-lightning

Hello. I can't seem to find a tonneau cover that fits my needs and seems to be worth a damn. Here is what I am looking for. I need it for trips up into the Washington mountains this winter, Leavenworth/Stevens Pass if you are familiar with the area. The family's luggage will be under it. During the summer I mountain bike and use a tailgate pad, my 29er hard tail fits with ~16" to spare. I would strongly prefer that it doesn't have to be removed to get the bikes in.Truck is in the sig.

  • Good looking when closed/extended.
  • Sitting on top of the bed rather than inside is preferred. I like the look of the increased bed height and the extra couple inches of room.
  • Doesn't block the rear window when open/retracted.
  • Does not reduce or minimal reduction in bed length when open/retracted.
  • Needs to seal water tight reliably, I'm in the Seattle area.
  • Strong and sturdy enough to hold snow, ~6-12" max.
  • No velcro or "snaps"
  • Must be black... matte black preferred.
  • Cost... ~$500-800?

Any suggestions?

I can't seem to find my exact order but this is the style I ended up with. Just like you- I wanted a hard shell cover that can seal out most of the elements, top of the bed rail for any bed rack attachments, and folded as compact as possible. That lead me to the quad fold over the tri fold.

I wonder if a cover exists with some extremely strong magnets that could be placed in the cover sections? Would not work with aluminum beds unless modified w/ steel plates glued on! But a folded cover could have the magnets and steel to allow the sections to be partially folded up while traveling.
