Makes it a really nice truck. I would take it over the competition. I think most people would take whatever they can get at this time.

I get hung up on the opportunity cost myself. 😕 38 yr old if I buy a truck for $50,000 and invest the $41,524 at 10% until age 65 I'm then sitting on another $610,991 for retirement.

That's a lot of additional enjoyment I would need out of this decked out truck!

I've always been one that wants all the tech type options, but never been in need of the fanciest type of leather or alcantara. With Chevy, it was always their "2" package versus the "3" package With Ford, in this case, the Lariat versus Platinum. The Lariat pretty much gets you all the tech / functional features Ford offers, but without the fancy stuff. To me, leather is leather. I'm appreciative of the fact that Ford does offer the Lariat version for around $14-15K less.

That's my only "partial" frown, the massaging seats. One of the drivers at the NY auto show commented that she loves them long distance and had them on while driving people around. My next vehicle will have them.

I had them in my Explorer. I found it extremely uncomfortable. I used them only a handful of times with hopeful optimism that the previous times I were just sitting in the wrong spot or something.

Have them in my Expedition Platinum and love them. Basically is the only reason my wife gave her approval of getting a Lightning.

Are they actually massage seats? I think I read something about it being a motion seat, meaning just vibration, not actual massage features. No desire for vibrating seats. Some actual massage seats in cars are really nice. I don't think that's what Ford offers though?

I guess if they are that nice, could always look for Platinum seats at junk yards after a little while and install them as an after market item. Does Ford off them in their ICE F-150's? If so, they probably are already available if you shop around.

View attachment 1969 One of the few that at the time offered massage in seat and the back. They don’t vibrate. Think more of a slow rolling adjustable lumbar support in the seat bottom and back. They’re available on the ICE F150’s. With almost everything, you can add it to your vehicle after you buy it. Not sure if the seats are just plug and play though.

Nearly $100k for the F-150 Lightning Platinum spec'd to have it all is quite a lot. Same goes for the Silverado RST First Edition that will set you back $105k. Is it worth it? I think so. But the best value is likely had much lower down the model range with far fewer options.

While Ford makes sure to constantly remind you that the F-150 Lightning starts at $39,974 the reality is, if you want a few basic options, things get expensive very quickly. In fact, unless you select Lariat or Platinum trim you can only add heated seats through a $9,500 options pack. Equally that $39,974 starting price isn't entirely accurate as it doesn't include the $1,695 destination fee - although at the same time you could also argue it doesn't factor in the $7,500 tax credit or any local incentives.

Regardless, if you want a well-equipped F-150 Lightning with a few options such as Ford Co-Pilot360, a toolbox or (dare I say it) heated seats things get expensive very quickly. Therefore we decided to see just how expensive the Lightning can get. Quickly skimming past the $39,974 Pro, the $52,974 XLT and the $67,474 Lariat we went straight for the top-of-the-line $90,874 Platinum.

Ford's website states the Platinum is for those who want to "have it all" and, to be fair, it seems like they stuck to that message. Your $90,874 gets you a lot of equipment as standard such as the Max Trailer Tow Package, 22" alloys, ventilated seats, Ford Co-Pilot360 and much, much more. However, we wanted literally everything so added a premium aluminum toolbox, trailer tire pressure monitoring, a storage box, fully reclining seats and even an in-vehicle safe. To top it off we finished our Lightning in Star White Metallic, a $795 option. The final price? An eye-watering $97,329.

Subtract the $7,500 tax credit and add the $1,695 destination fee and getting your hands on the most expensive Lightning will effectively cost you $91,524. That's quite a lot for an F-150. But then again, you are getting a 300-mile range and 526 hp - as well as every option under the sun.

I wouldn’t want the Platinum due to the range loss of 20 miles caused by the larger wheels. If the range was the same, I would have seriously considered it. 20 miles may not seem like a lot, but I’ll take the larger range over the smaller, every day.

This is the main reason I didn't go with them. It was my goal initially. However, when the EPA numbers were reported my thought on it shifted slightly. 300 is a healthy number but of course 320 is better. I really like those wheels and I want massage seats.

I'm anxiously awaiting Platinum Lightnings wearing Pro-sized rims and EV tires. You know somebody will do it and post range videos. Personally, I really like the Pro rims and think they would be right at home on any Lightning variant.

I considered this lol but I just don't have the room in my garage. Cause I'd only need the pro wheels for a handful of times over the year. Or the will to deal with replacing that many tires. Already dealing with that on my mustang

Platinum coming to Canada, build date Aug 22, 118,000 bucks plus sales tax of 5%, ouch but if they last like the teslas I will die with this truck. We operate a farm so only put on about 40 miles a day. It will be charged every night. Presently drive a 21 Hybrid Platinum. Amazing truck. It is my office.

As a work truck, the Pro version makes so much sense. If you drive it as a daily vehicle, the Lariat is a good in between. The Platinum is very nice, but at $14-15K more, is pretty steep price increase. I have the Lariat coming, but have considering order a Pro just to have it. Was considering Tesla powerwall batteries, but better to just by a Pro for $45,000. More capacity and you get a truck to go with it. How can you go wrong? Wouldn't want to live with the Pro version as a daily or long distance driver, hence the Lariat order. But a second one just for house and more taxing duties would be perfect. Plan on placing another order for one as soon as they are open again.
