Basically, everything is locked out while you’re driving. You can’t even enter a phone number. I couldn’t even call 911 if I had to. (It’s up to each car manufacturer to configure what they want to allow in Apple Carplay. Ford seems to have turned that dial up to 11.)

You also can’t search for an address. Guess what people will do when they can’t do it on the screen….yep…phones will come out of pockets….which is way worse.
Apple Music doesn’t show you your full music library when the car is moving - it only shows you “recently added” albums and artists. Come on, that’s ridiculous. Back in the iPod days nobody stopped you from scrolling through your music.

And what’s with all the legal disclaimers every single time you enable blue cruise? It covers up much more useful information, and seriously what are they expecting people to do?
The whole thing reeks of big corporate legal CYA, and it‘s all at the expense of a great user experience.

I'm similarly restricted using Android Auto in my Mach E, but when trying to punch up an address while driving my Lightning, there was an Override button to press to the right of the text box. I pressed that and was able to enter an address while driving.

I was pleasantly surprised. I'll see if I can grab a picture of it next time I'm out.

I agree that the number of 'on screen' notifications(nanny notices) are annoying. I can understand having something when you FIRST interact with a specific 'new' feature, but to have it constantly 'alert' you, as though it standing in the way of maybe OTHER important information or navigation tools, is overboard.
FORD, if you 'must' give us alerts, make them a simple top banner 'icon' that one can click on to see for themselves, but don't clutter the information screen with useless information that you then must 'click' to remove - which is A DISTRACTION OF IT'S OWN!

One annoyance I've noticed, WHILE DRIVING, is the navigation tools. If I want to see 'charger locations' upcoming, I can only scroll thru the first 6 or 8 before it tells me so nicely that 'other' charger locations cannot be access while driving....really!?? Isn't that the very purpose of HAVING NAVIGATION? It's like the engineers will allow you to see 'some' locations, but not 'all', since we are all children and won't be able to understand that we've ALREADY been distracted by the very messages that Ford is putting on the screen.

Use the voice commands and say "call 911". Works like a charm.

lol I somewhat laughed cause the entering a phone number thing doesn't affect me in Android Auto or the OEM system. I did it the other day (MAINLY because android auto didn't load so I could hit the contact). I was driving and entered in my wife's full number in the OEM system. So what I'm seeing from the image above is.......Google > Apple. Check and Mate!

Now I will say I do hate the OEM "Ok" popups. or mainly mildly irritated. I can see it in my peripheral when I'm driving and can hit the ok button without looking. But I'm somewhat use to this from my 2017 Mustang. It isn't new to the newer systems.

What I HATE is that I can't use the USB media while driving. I can in SYNC 3 but not in 4. So when I want to listen to something different I have to default to my android auto........unless that, as mentioned above, doesn't connect.

When is my Lightning getting the Youtube update @Ford Motor Company ? It is in my Mach E, gimme.

I use a USB flash drive to play music in my Lightning while driving. I am using the port next to the charge pad. You can control on the Infotainment screen or using the controls on the steering wheel.

I haven't tried that. I'll give it a shot today.

From time to time when I go to check my tire pressure, my initial act is to go to the infotainment because I'm still use to the Mach E.

EDIT: @btreece So are you just saying you can turn to USB through the dash screen or that you can change what is playing? All I saw that I could do is bring up USB media. But no control on changing albums.

Voice commands on Apple CarPlay work great and I use them all the time. Having said that, it's hilarious or frustrating when they don't the smaller percentage of times it fails.
