No vehicle is good for the environment. It's a matter of what is the least bad. Here is a report by the International Council on Clean Transportation that shows that medium sized BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) average about 70% less harm to the environment than ICE (Internal Combustion Vehicles) do.

As time goes on, that number will significantly get better for BEVs. Here is a graph comparing their research:

The Lightning, according to Ford and University of Michigan researchers, has a 64% reduction in pollution across the life of the vehicle. Here is the article and research.

It's improvements like these that are important for our world. It's not perfect, but it's better than the alternative.

One thing that’s never discussed in these well two wheel assessments is non-point source pollution. Look at the ground at any parking lot, gas station, or stoplight and you will see a ton of oil spots. Every time somebody pumps gas and a drip hits the ground or they change their oil and some gets on their driveway that’s pollution. Most pollution is non-point source. In my mind one of the biggest environmental benefits of an EV is a greatly reduces that type of pollution.
also you’re not managing or making sure that millions of tail pipes are compliant.
Where I live there are many people who game the system in order to make their diesel trucks pollute more. That won’t happen with an EV.
It’s not just extraction and production that contributes to the amount a vehicle pollutes.

This is a really good distinction to make and one that is absolutely overlooked. Thanks for sharing!
