QQ, I have the SR Pro so i have the 48A onboard charger. I'm looking to get the TeslaTap. Should I get the 50A or 80A? It is a big price difference.

If I get the 50A then can I use it at a 80A Tesla destination charger since the most it would pull is the 48A limit from my onboard charger?

Also, is there any benefit to getting the Tesla mobile connector if I have an EVSE installed at home?

While the 50A just makes it, for proper 125% rating I would recommend the 60A just as you would need a 60A breaker for a 48A EVSE installation. It may be a bit of overkill but I rather be safe than smoked.

For road trips, carrying a mobile EVSE is a good thing. The Tesla mobile connector seems to be one of the best, most versatile mobile EVSEs for the money.

I don't see a TeslaTap for 60A.

I would just get the 80A. I did and I'm happy with it. It's worth the price, the quality is great, and Tesla Destination chargers have a 80A limit anyway. In the event that I'm ever near one, I'll be happy to have the faster speed. I use it all the time with a 50A circuit and I like to think maybe it's a little less stressed than a 50A would have been.

My $0.02 - If you are going to spend the money I'd probably still get the 80 Amp, it will work just fine at lower amperages, but if/when you do move to another EV, it would still potentially work. The new Mini has been adjusted to work on Rivian and RAV4 EV. I think they are about $40 difference.

It does not. The TeslaTap and all other adapters are for Destination Chargers and below, not SuperChargers. They could of course be opening that shortly, in which case they will have a Magic Dock adapter, but I’d imagine you could also use your personal adapter with the Tesla connector cable (I refuse to call it the NACS).

I bought the 80A TeslaTap. I have a 48A Wall connector on a 60A circuit for my PRO. I thought the 50A would be fine but for that product (I called the maker) you need the 80A unit for charging at 48A. He said that it is fine for 48A up to 3 hours at a time, but for continuous charging you need to be 125% above, so 60A minimum. Plus he said that even though this is rated at 80A, it is only good for 64A continuous.
That is actually different than for his TeslaTap Mini, where the rating represents the continuous capability. Sooooo, if it doesn't indicate "continuous", go with the 125% rule.

I originally bought the LECTRON adapter. I liked it and it is rated for continuous use at 48A, but it fit extremely tight into my truck's charge port. So much so, I was concerned about damage to either the pins or the actual charge port mounts. Therefore, I returned it and decided I wanted something with a J1772 handle for better fitment vs the other type adapters, even the others from TelsaTap.
And that said, this handle is a bit snug but doable.
