Take this with a gigantic grain of salt but it's being reported that Tesla wants to begin Cybertruck production at the end of 2023

https://jalopnik.com/tesla-now-plans-to-start-cybertruck-production-by-the-e-1849726957

A new report from Reuters says Tesla is aiming to begin full Cybertruck mass production by the end of next year. For realsies this time, or so it says. This would only be two years after the initial mass production target was announced by CEO Elon Musk. That easily beats out vehicles like the Semi and new Roadster.

That being said, words are cheap when it comes to Tesla production targets, so we’ll remain skeptical until Cybertrucks actually start rolling off the assembly line in Austin, Texas.

“We’re in the final lap for Cybertruck,” Musk told financial analysts in a conference call.

According to Reuters, a gradual ramp-up in the second half of 2023 will culminate in full output by the end of that year. That would mean the company wouldn’t make any money off the long-awaited Cybertruck until the beginning of 2024 at the earliest.

There’s still no word on exactly how much the Cybertruck will cost people who put down a $100 deposit years ago, but it’s a safe bet that it’ll be well over the initial $40,000 Musk projected it to be.

As much as I hate the design, I'll hate it even more if he does not put in a real truck dashboard.....he goes fake wood, and computer like Model 3, he will have created the most undesirable vehicle of all time.
Well you won't need to worry about that since this thing is never going to get produced anyway. It's nothing more than a piece of vaporware intended to satisfy Musk's most childish, 1980s desires and get about $100 million in interest free loans from depositors.

The wood in my Model Y is real.

I like the interior a whole lot. Seeing as the Model Y is now one of the best selling cars in the world, it would seem that a lot of us find this clean approach to be "desirable".

I have a day 1 reservation for the CT, but now like the Sierra so much that it will probably win out as my F150 replacement when they ship.

I wish I had a penny for everybody that said that about the Model S. Then the X. Then the 3. Yes, there was a ton of work to do, and Tesla has been late on most of its products, but they got it right and got them into production, and are currently one of the most prolific automobile manufactures in the world. Yes, the CT will make it to production, there is no reason for it not to. The production line is being built as we speak, and wildly expensive presses being tested.

I am curious, if you actually believe they are not going to be produced, what is your theory as to why Tesla spent over $300 million on the presses for them?

Two reasons. 1. It gets Elon attention. And 2. It helps keep Tesla's stock price inflated, which keeps Elon ridiculously rich.

Even w/o digging all that deep that reasoning would seem flawed.
Well no one has ever accused Elon Musk of using conventional methods to achieve his goals. Normal people like you and me wouldn't do that. But he's on another planet.

Besides, do we truly know for sure that Tesla has spent that kind of money on presses for the stainless steel bodies specifically for the CyBeRtRuCk? Or is this more of automotive journalists hearing a rumor and connecting some dots without any hard/verifiable evidence?

FTA: "It is believed that this particular 9,000-ton press will be used to create Tesla Cybertruck frames by die-casting aluminum and this seems to be confirmed by IDRA itself as per the YouTube video description excerpt added above that mentions light trucks." That's still a bit of a shaky "confirmation," especially considering how squirrely Tesla has been with disclosing a firm production date for the CyBeRtRuCk. I'll believe it when I see it.

<sigh>
Ok, you have an ax to grind, that is fine. There are shots of the presses being installed in Texas in the applicable forums, as well as CT skeletons being lined up. I don't really have a dog in the fight, but I think that there is ample evidence that Tesla makes automobiles, a lot of them, will continue to do so and will expand its offerings as this is the normal path of things.

I have observed some similarities between Elon-haters and flat-earthers. I base my belief that Tesla's exist and will probably continue to do so in different forms (such as a truck) on what I believe is pretty solid empirical evidence.

Happily, opinions do not need evidence.

The bigger issue is the availability of the battery cells Tesla said are essential for the CT. Tesla claimed multiple engineering reasons the CT would be built with 4680s but latest intel on those indicates the 4680s won't be ready in large numbers by then. That means either delays into 2024 or the CT will use 2170s.

I'd love to be able to have a Cybertruck for my daily driver. Deer would just bounce off that stainless steel battering ram of a nose! That being said, tooling takes time. They might have a couple engineering pre-pro models coming out of GigaTexas this year, but can't see it ramping up too quickly. As a certain famous auto manufacturer once said, "Production is hell". And every year the same manufacturer says "by the end of this year, or first quarter of next".

Unfortunately, I won't be getting a CT anytime soon, because my daily driver has to be my vacation get-away truck, and the CT geometry won't take my GoFast Camper. But will be jealous of those that get a CT!
