Very interesting. This should have been adopted yesterday. It won't support the HIS however, so redesign would have to happen by Ford.

Opening the North American Charging Standard
Classic BS. The "North American Charging Standard (NACS)" is only a standard within Tesla. They had the chance to play nicely with others years ago and decided to build their own sandbox. Now they are making a thinly-veiled attempt to access Federal dollars. Nope.

It's not too late and CCS is straight garbage. Can you imagine using CCS in 2030 or 2035? No way.

We are in the early days of EVs, the tech is going to iterate quickly, manufacturers will need to adopt or die.

If not the Tesla standard fine (but dumb not to) they will have to update CCS to something, watch.

it's like the 'floppy disk' of the day - a much easier way to transfer data, versus having to link two computers together, but we later realize that it was really such a MASSIVE size, versus today's fingernail-size USB options, if not simply a internet data transfer, without ANY hardware : )

in the future: no cables - only drive up 'near' a wireless charger, built into the pavement, or even, wireless charging built into roadways, for 'no stop' charging.

Agree with you 100% and had just made this same comment a little bit ago before I read your comment here. After driving Tesla's for 4 years, by first experience with an EA charger and CCS was like WTF. There is no way this standard survives in the current form of that plug for mass EV adoption in 20 years.

So agree - dis Tesla if you aren't a fanboy, but it won't be what we have today.

Aptera announced it's using the NACS plug so there's the entry into gov't subsidies. Having a vehicle in each world, no question in my mind that Tesla did it right, and the SAE, well the old joke about a camel being a horse designed by a committee, applies.

Tesla connector is the Betamax of EV charging. Tech is arguably better but the company blew the chance to be the most commonly used.

I think NEVI specifically calls for CCS, so not sure why they would think this would work.
Yep. The NEVI guidance already limits applicable systems to CCS:
  • EV charging infrastructure includes at least four 150kW Direct Current (DC) Fast Chargers
    with Combined Charging System (CCS) ports capable of simultaneously DC charging four
    EVs;

Tesla is in a pickle. Tesla owners don't want to allow other EVs (I'm a prior owner and that's how I felt). Tesla will add the minimum number of CCS adapters to get the government money. I'm sure the rates will be outrageous too! But man, I miss that charging infrastructure! :(

Funny part is, I don't even care. Elon can have all of my money; just get the damn thing opened already!
