The tailgate skins are totally different stampings.

-The two lower trim levels have a straight edge on the tailgate
-The upper trim level tailgates go outward towards the tail lights in the middle section
-The upper edges near the handle are different between the two
-The LED tail lights are slightly different
-The Ford logo are in different locations
-The location of where F-150 is stamped into the tailgate skin is different. One is higher, the other is lower

Both of them look good but I prefer the light bar much more on the higher trim models.

I wonder if insurance for the Pro/XLT is cheaper because of the simpler design.

I think everyone prefers the Lariat/Platinum tailgate with the LED light strip. It simply looks more premium and a giveaway that you are driving a Lightning. The Pro/XLT trims look like an ICE F150 from behind.
