I originally reserved a Pro model but could only choose Lariat/Platinum to order a 2022. I picked Platinum thinking it would help my chances of getting a 2022 (arriving in days luckily). Now the Pro model I originally wanted is at another dealer down the road and my dealer has an XLT. I’m considering trying to coordinate a swap so I buy the Pro and dealers essentially ‘upgrade’ their demo models to XLT/Platinum. Anyone have experience or thoughts on swapping like this? I would think they would want demo models with more features so would be a win-win.

While it's an 'idea', the chances are slim: you will own the vehicle, since it's ordered by you, and only you purchasing it then puts the options in your own hands - but, then it's a used vehicle, AND you'd have paid sales taxes on it, which you would also have to recoup, although unlikely, and then trade it for another vehicle you'd also have to pay sales taxes on.... it's an idea, but that's about it. Doubtful that a dealer cares whether they have a Demo PRO or Platinum, they are going to add ADM to make up for any differences, regardless.

I think your best bet is to buy what you have coming and flip it or sell back to the dealer and then buy the demo if that's what you want. Dealers are scumbags (with few exceptions) and will figure a way to screw you one way or the other.

I have actually thought of offering my dealer this: I buy their demo (an XLT). When my reservation-to-order time comes, I configure the truck to their specifications. When the truck arrives, I then decide not to take it and it reverts to the dealer to do with it what they want...

There are penalties to the dealer for selling a demo before it times out of the FCTP program, but there does seem to be provisions for the dealer to avoid the penalties by finding a “replacement”
