Ford Motor Company and F-150 fanboy here, patiently (impatiently?) awaiting to order an F-150 Lightning since day 1.
This morning, I can’t help but be annoyed with the packaging of Lightning. I’m doing about 350 miles today in bottom-shelf 2016 government spec Fusion AWD, a $26k car on government bid back in the day yet it’s got heated 10-way power seats with lumbar support on both sides yet I have to option up on a $10k package on the Lightning to get comparable seats? It’s just ridiculous.
hey @FoMoCo, you’ve got a home run at the moment but what’s gonna happen when the glory dies out and your fanboy base has left you because of reservations that, apparently, didn’t mean a thing and option packaging bordering on extortion?

If it were only about seats I would agree, but on many other merits, no other vehicles ICE or EVs come close to the capabilities of the lightning for the price. They will sell everyone at current prices and even future increased prices. This pickup checks a lot of the boxes: largest EV, AWD, speed, range, storage and space, etc.

I am not sure I agree that all those boxes are checked. Range for instance is not what I had hoped for and certainly not viable for any real tow application. While it is AWD it is not nearly ass capable as some competitors. I have a fairly good job and find the cost to be somewhat prohibitive for what you are getting. I wonder how many folks will be willing to actually pluck down $100K at whatever the rising interest rates are going to be.

It's not 2016 anymore.
I was also looking for some suggestions on reducing price that I might be over looking.

I agree on towing even with the ER, it cuts range in 1/2. If your commute is less than 150 miles a day and you have level 2 charging at home, the standard range battery will work just fine. I have a pro on order and the value is extremely high, but I have no doubt Ford will have buyers at all price points given this vehicles capabilities and luxury at higher trim levels. There is no EV this size on the market, so Ford owns the space at this time.

No, I think Kevin2991 is on to something. I think the guys at Munro (automobile manufacturing consultants) mention this in their YouTube videos (MunroLive). Ford should have optioned out the Lightning in only two trim levels: PRO and Platinum. That would have made it way cheaper and easier to produce. Keep the PRO as a standard range with low options and the Platinum all decked out, but since all the volume going into this configuration, achieving economies of scale. This would have prevented the price increase just months after initial production began. They would have had more volume of vehicles early on and less confusion over which model to buy. Later on, the Marketing Boys could have allowed to dress up the pro to an XLT and dress down the Platinum to a Lariat, once the production kinks were ironed out. But, hey, that's just one dude's opinion. You'd think after 100 years of being in the business, Ford would have mastered mixed model production, but you can palpably feel their pain in producing all these variants of the Lightning.
