I have read a lot of different posts about using Sunrun to install your home charger or a possible home integration system. Thought I would share my experience. The "so what" is that in my experience Sunrun is a sub-contracting sales machine. I'm not sure how well that sales machine will translate into service and support.
I submitted a request to be contacted for a quote to have the charger installed, received a callback focused on selling me solar, and was transferred 3 times to get to the right department that could give me the quote. After a very pleasant conversation, it was determined that I needed to have a site visit to give the quote, to which I would need to pay $150 for a "design consultation", which I would get back to if I scheduled an installation. I declined and instead opted to have free quotes from local electricians.
Today I received a follow-up call from Sunrun, inquiring about why I opted to move forward. I explained the design consultation fee as the reason and they said "oh that's not true, let me get you over to someone to schedule that right now, 1 transfers later I was back on the phone with someone wanting to sell me solar, and then another transfer to the same person who told me "yes you would need to pay the $150 consult fee for us to come out".
For me it's clear that if getting someone out just to give the estimate takes this many transfers and miscommunication I would hate to see what happens if I had a problem. So I'll stick with the local company for now.
And yes I realize there is likely reasons/process that drives all this, it should not fall on the customer... Hope the experience share is helpful.
