Pretty sure I know the answer to this, but by any chance is the SR battery upgradeable to the extended?
Been driving my Lariat for 4 days now and love it, just getting worried about the loss of miles once winter hits.

Not possible and even if it was I don't think you'd be happy with the cost.

currently it's not, but the future could change that ... I'm sure that eventually the ability to drop out the 8 bolts and change out a battery will be something of more common activity for some Ford or aftermarket providers. Yes, cost will trump needs, but some will do it anyway.

Now, the real question is: are there more hardware/electronic requirements for the ER versus the SR battery pack, such as inverters/inverter size, chiller/cooling needs, charger/charger size, wiring, etc.

It would surely be nice if the two packs were both 'plug and play', but I suspect that there is more to it than that.

It will be years before anyone has replacement batteries. There is one company I'm aware of that will do some work on Tesla batteries and there are millions of them. The big companies can't build enough for assembly lines, so not for a while.

This is where we the manufactures have to get smart. If Ford did design different cooling capacities for SR vs ER, it is likely more overhead to engineer, create, produce and track two designs than it is worth. Really that would make 3 when you toss in Max Tow. Engineer it once make it right, use it on all trim levels. Huge reduction and simplification of the assembly line. This applies to many areas other than battery size/cooling.

I wished they had added two tone paint, upgradeability to the Unleashed in the Lariat (after the fact I'm glad I wasn't able to waste money on that upgrade) and many other options, but reality is that just costs a lot of overhead. Make 3 or 4 models, simplify and reduce the cost/overhead. Of course passing some of that to the customer would be nice, but they will pocket it.

Probably not. Even if it is possible here are the battery pack costs:

it's similar to asking the question "can I just swap out my engine in my clunky slow gas truck with a larger one?"... ummm, yes, you 'can', but, no, you probably won't... it's a LOT of work. it's not the same 'size'. It may have different configurations and locations of things that impact the current body's placement options. If you watch enough of the 'truck and car shows', you'll see even the professionals sometimes find out later that the 'engine swap' wasn't as easy as they first thought.

then, look at the bill when they're done. : /

even swapping out your little 12v battery is not that easy.
