This of course will continue to be a discussion point, and something that potential buyers will struggle with. If you are one of those people wrestling with this choice, a good source of information for you is the company that has been doing this the longest: Tesla.


Tesla learned that there is an invisible wall at the magic number of 300 miles. Tesla has repeatedly brought in models under that number, only to quickly drop them because customers are not satisfied.

Owning EVs on both sides of this imaginary wall, I can tell you it is real.

Hope this information helps those wrestling with these choices.

Agree an all purpose ev needs that EPA 300+, because in the "real world" the range is considerably less. I have a Bolt, 259 EPA, currently predicting 157 on a full charge, due to cold weather plus driving style (lots of freeway miles at 75-80 mph). Oh, and snow tires. For me its ER or bust.
