Wheel Tire Car Automotive parking light Vehicle

I'm a day one reservation holder and expecting a call in September. Considering the recent price increase from FoMoCo and the change in the Federal EV Tax incentive, a Lightning with an ER battery is now priced out of reach for most of us working stiffs. That was my single biggest adder I wanted and was already a stretch, now it's just ridiculous.
So now looking at a Pro, no options. How's life with the SR battery? We live in the PNW in a rural community with sparse EV infrastructure. That being said, we have a 2019 F-150 SCREW 3.5L Eco that we are keeping too, so the Lightning will be my DD and will rarely put more than 150 miles on it in a single day.
Otherwise, I'll keep my Camry hybrid and let my reservation on the Lightning pass.
What say ye?

Only had my XLT with standard range for a week. Longest trip so far 53 miles out and 53 miles back. No issues. Charges like a champ even with just the mobile charger the truck came with. 50 Amp Chargepoint to be installed next week. At that point, unless on a trip beyond 100 miles from home, this baby will be fed nothing but home cooked electrons!

What was your kw per mile average on those trips and what is your average on daily commute? If 2.6 to 3.3 that would be awesome.

My gf and I went to visit my parents recently and my dad let me drive his new id.4 while I was in town. First night we came real close to running outta charge before we got back to the house and barely made it and that's when I learned that my gf is horrified of being stranded in the road.

All this to say, there's no way in hell she'd ever get in the car with me if I only had the standard range model lol

How far did you end up going before it started running out of charge?

Downhill with a tailwind might generate those numbers! LOL

Most owners have been reporting around 2.0 to 2.2 miles per wh. Possibly the SR could do a little better since it's lighter. But, many have tested that aero versus weight is the factor that has the most notable impact on range. So, still being a truck, would probably expect in the 2.1 to 2.3 range, for "normal" driving.

I’ve actually gotten 2.6 but 2.3 is my average, so 225 miles…but I’m driving highway. I have seen 2.9 doing city driving with lots of start / stop.

I’ve been driving an (XLT) for almost 8 weeks and have 2,000 miles on it. Averaging 2.3m/kWh. Usually charge to 90%, occasionally to 100%. All charging with one exception has been at home. Longest trip has been 180 miles round trip without charging. 20% left when finished that trip. It takes approximately 76 kWh to get 68.6 kWh in my SR battery. That is going from 20% to 90%. Cost is $0.0679 per kWh at home. So has cost me approximately 3.2 cents per mile. I’m very happy with the Lightning.

Glad to hear you're enjoying oyur Lightning @Pat2Alaska! Congrats and welcome to the forum! What's your charging setup like a home? Which charger are you using?

Not sure total trip distance, but it said I had 60 miles left and I was about 20 miles away from the house. When I finally parked it said there was 2 miles left.
Sadly, this was likely "user error", I'll bet the ID.4 wasn't charged overnight prior to you driving it and had a depleted battery, which is common when folks don't realise the rule "keep it plugged in".

My wife also had the fear of running out of charge, mostly because our first EV was a 60 km range (at 100%!!) Smart Electric drive!
BUT, she found that with overnight charging to full daily, she NEVER felt concerned and now in 10 years of EV only driving in the family, we've never run out.
We added a 2013 Tesla to the fleet in 2015 and have 250,000 km of EV only driving since.

Based on what I am reading on here, the standard range will still be quite a good truck for trips as long as the EV charging infrastructure, (👀 EA) holds up and continues to grow and be maintained. Honestly the charging networks are my only real concern. The range in my opinion is really good for the truck size.

Still haven't seen a post regarding the charging speed or curve of the standard pack on EA DC Fast Chargers. Can a Lightning owner with the standard pack do a DC Fast Charge from 20-80% or even 20-90% and provide some speeds?

The ID 4 estimates you have 60 miles based on ideal conditions (GOM: Guess O Meter) and doesn't take weather, terrain, and how hard you are pressing on the Go Pedal. The torque of the EV's is addicting and it sounds like you might have been showing off to the GF your parents new EV. It doesn't matter if you have a standard range pack or extended range, 60 miles on the GOM is 60 miles. EV newbies shouldn't be scared to get standard range pack based your experience with an ID 4. BTW: The ID 4 is a heavy girl in AWD trim 4900 lbs with its extended range 82 kWh pack, vs the standard range Lightning at 6250 lbs with a 98kWh pack. EV's will not reward you with efficiency if you drive aggressively, especially on highways. Keep it under 70, ideally 65 and the standard range lightning should get over 2.2kWh in good conditions.

The Chevy Bolt is the only mainstream EV I know of that the GOM shows worst, average, and best.

I have had my XLT SR for a while and the SR battery will be perfect for what I use it for: commute, groceries, and big-box weekend lumber and garden runs. No towing and no extended road trips. I get 2.2-2.4 m/kWh, but my wife gets 2.7 consistently. (Guess we know who the leadfoot is.) The SR is lighter, tires don't have to be inflated rock-hard and semi-weekly charging is fast and easy. It just depends on your use case. Unless you have a serious commute, long-road trips, or need to tow something big, the SR is the best value IMHO.
