Hello, everyone.

Programmer here, recently retired, living in Kentucky but probably moving south in a couple of years when the wife can retire.

I've never owned a truck before (unless you count Jeeps and my newly-ordered Bronco), but the Lightning looks like a great and practical vehicle. I've needed a truck countless times in the past. I'm excited and hoping for a luxury ride, along with the advantages that an EV brings to the table. As an IT guy, I really love the tech, too. The fact that it's not crazy-priced is a great plus as well.

Welcome! Since you say luxury ride, are you thinking of getting the Platinum trim?

One warning. So far, Kentucky has very few DC Fast Chargers. Of course, if you are like most folks, 95% of your charging will be at home.
Thanks. :) No, I can't really afford the Platinum. I was thinking the XLT. But I've never owned an F150, so maybe I don't have the proper definition of "luxury" in mind for the Lightning.

Totally understand the lack of chargers here. I only travel to Lexington and Louisville, might rarely take a trip to southeast Kentucky and part of rural West Virginia, where I am sure there are absolutely no chargers. Most of my traveling is down south. I expect some headaches for the first few years of owning an EV. I don't feel like our infrastructure is really there, especially my state and the states south of me. But I expect it to come at some point. I'm thinking/hoping there may be some sort of portable charging solution you can take with you on trips where you can't easily charge.

Check out the maps on PlugShare (PlugShare - Find Electric Vehicle Charging Locations Near You) to see what sort of infrastructure you have around you. The I-65 and I-75 corridors are well equipped but issues will arise when you move off those in your travels south. PlugShare has filters on the maps so you can choose only DC Fast Chargers or add in L2 chargers that are great at destinations.
I'm on the PlugShare site with all filters selected (the default). I don't think I know the difference between a DC Fast Charger and an L2 charger. Also, by unchecking "Show Locations That Require Payment", does that mean it will show free charging stations? (I see a few, even here in Frankfort, Kentucky.)
