Thankfully all of today’s charging sessions were smooth as they could be. Even when chargers were down, there were alternative chargers today. Far fewer EVs once one gets east of AZ.

Wednesday night we Wally-docked in Fort Stockton TX, including sleeping by the light of the EA stations.

All the charging sessions worked well yesterday with easy trailer access.

86° yesterday so we came to a Kerrville TX RV park on the Guadalupe River and got in a nice paddle. Front came through last night and its in the 30s, windy and gray. High only in the 50s again. Summer was sure nice while it lasted.

Real family love: a cousin who installs a NEMA 15-20 in anticipation of your visit for a few days (of course, he is an electrician).

After a few days in Smithville TX visiting with family, yesterday took us through Houston to Port Arthur. Electrify America in Houston has real issues. We stopped at what a local considered the worst of the Houston EAs on Yale Street in eastern Houston. One fully-functioning charger and two half-functioning ones. The local said the Katy Outlet Mall on the west side was better but has issues too.

After a wait in line we got one charger working at 80kW, then when the best one cleared we jumped to it and charged at 130kW.

We left when charging slowed to 60kW at 80% but should have stayed a little longer. We ended up having to make a second charging stop to reach our campground but had a great experience with a brand new ABB 50kW charger at Mike Smith Nissan. We pulled up to eye the charger only to find it totally ICEd. When we moved to disconnect the trailer to see if we could get into a spot, three employees came out and moved the cars ICEing the charger -- we didn't even ask! They told us to leave the trailer on and pull right up. It was even free (for now). Just as we were preparing to leave a Leaf came in for his quick charge.

Today we ran into two common issues with EA at the same stop.

Two chargers down out of 4, the 2 working ones were slow:
At least they had techs working on it. Is anyone else a little alarmed that a fire alarm company is doing the charger overhaul?

In addition, the chargers aren't well configured for trailering.
This was an entirely self-inflicted problem. Pictures from PlugShare show those poles and signs are a new addition:

Fortunately, EA is listening:

Whether it will make a difference or not is another matter.
