Hey y'all. Reserved a F150 lightning May of 2021, and was told that I 9th on the list at my dealership of about 30 or so.

For some reason the reservation email is showing that I have a XLT trim level reserved. I don't remember selecting a trim level during the reservation and was under the impression that trim levels would be selected when the ordering process starts.

For those of y'all that have placed orders already, did you select your trim level during the ordering? Thanks.

Congratulations on being #9. Do you know how many they received in 2022?

Just ignore the fact that they suddenly all say XLT since about two weeks ago. There's a thread on that.

Thanks. I saw the post about the 2022 XLT reservation shortly after I posted this.

I think there's 30 reservations, and 4 are coming this year.

I would assume that I would be able to get one sometime next year, maybe even place the order before the end of this year.

The nonsense of not allowing the work truck to have the ER for individual customers is a bad look, and forcing 10k of additional options unto you to get it in the XLT is frustrating.

So it puts me in a spot of getting either the pro model base or a lariat ER, and as great as that lariat appears to be, it's almost twice the price. Plus the big monitor display looks like it was patched into the dash, the smaller monitor just aestheticlly looks better.

I'll probably get the Pro work truck. I'll be able to pay that off in a couple years, and it's what I'm used to. I still have my 2005 STX, first new vehicle I bought. I prefer the non cloth surfaces(which is what makes the XLT a no for me) they are easy to keep clean.

It will be sweet finally having power windows though.

Here's an important question for you: how often will you actually need to drive more than 230 miles in one day? That will help you evaluate if you really need the ER battery.

130 mile round trip for work a day. But I should be able to plug into a 30A 220 line at work, so no real issue. Even if the 220 is unavailable, I could use a 110, and get 25 miles or so, if needed.

Cold weather and hundreds of recharge cycles are a factor though.

What will the range be after 5 years and 175k? They can estimate all they want, but it could create some tighter spots. But in all reality it should be adequate.

Don't forget that Ford guarantees that for 8 years or 100,000 miles, the battery will maintain at least 70% of its stated capacity or they will replace it.

its not necessarily about driving 230 in a day, but its about loss too. Driving highway speeds you're not going to get 230 miles of range on the standard battery.

having used 110 to charge plan on getting about 1.8 miles per hour for a charge. So if you charged 8 hours that would be 14.4 miles

Yeah. It's the main reason I'm irritated with fords money grab of advertising for over a year that pro er truck at 50k and not letting anyone regular touch the big battery for under 75k, all while masquerading around a lie by omission 10k upcharge.

That's business though, and I doubt they'll have trouble selling these, even at the higher prices.

It does bother me though. My entire life I've had the 'Built Ford Tough' image of hard men doing hard work.

But now apparently to get the best working truck performance you can't it in a work truck. They'd rather sell the image of a Florida Georgia line music video peacocking around some back road to a lake in your luxury vehicle that you don't want to get dirty.

Maybe it's good marketing though, selling a tough, masculine image but it's really a luxury vehicle.

I remember in the mid 2000s they had the Lincoln Mark LT. Most people around me thought the idea of a luxury truck was weird, and didnt sell well.

5 years later, you take the Mark LT, call it a F150 Platinum, and the crowd goes wild for it. Same people that crapped on the Mark LT love the Platinum, literally just over branding.

It's all good Ford Motor Co, I'm a shareholder. Keep selling the people what they will pay for.

im sure theres some market research behind it. like my best friend from high school has always driven king ranch or lariat trim f150s, in fact he just got an ICE lariat right before i got my lightning.

Maybe next model year they'll allow consumers to order the extended battery on the pro.

Yeah, that 1.8 miles per hour wont be the same for the large battery of the F150 though. Thing will get much less range per time of charging compared to anything current EVs have. They are just bigger, less efficient, and get less range / kWh they get filled. With these large battery vehicles, gone are the days of 110V, or even low amp 220V charging being helpful in a quick turn around.

Im trying to balance the cost/benefit of dropping an extra 35k. So far I'm leaning pro work truck. The extra options aren't why I'm buying this, so it mentally feels like I'm dropping double the money for a bigger battery. With this new tax plan going through the thing hopefully will be under 38k out the door, which is a screamer, that price point is nucking futs.

I figure on the 130 mile round trip, about sixty miles at 65-70mph, about forty miles at 55-60, and 30 miles at under 50. I don't know what the true milage will be, but if I have at least 25% battery left after that on a cold day I'll be good. I bet I'll do a little better than that. If I have to get a ten minute 'splash and go' every now and then so be it.

Anyone know or have a good estimate what the charge rate on a 220 30 amp mobile charger would be? I figured I'd keep one of these in the back in case I go to a buddy's house or something after work and won't start home charging till night.

you can check out a better router planer to check your route with the smaller battery. I will say, because of the weight of this thing, you do gain a decent amount when in stop and go traffic or on city streets. I bet if i did my battery to full and just did city streets i could easily eclipse 350 miles, if not close to 400. I regularly get 3+ miles to the kWh when i do city streets.

On 220 on 30amp i would expect you to get around 15 miles of range an hour, or so. Thats what mine is getting on 40 amp circuit (the mobile charger is only 30 amps). Not sure if the smaller battery is slower on the mobile charger or not.

Ok, sorry about that, I have not really done much 110V charging in my Tesla, just remember that it is excessively slow when I do. So your 1.8 miles was from experience with the truck, which is already lowered from what I would have gotten. Thanks for the correction. I have a Lariat LR also on reservation, although if $80K is caped then I may have to drop to a Pro, and keep my car for longer road trips.

I was thinking about the 80k cap. If I were in that spot I would just get whatever I could from the dealer on a separate order and have them install it after purchase, bedliners, running boards, etc.

yea for reference our model 3 gets 5 miles of range per hour on 110v.

Yeah so I was thinking about that and actually went to try a build where I get the Lariat, extended battery, red paint, and max towing package only, then like you said leave everything else to 2nd purchase from dealer. Came out to $80,500ish. All of those have to be installed at the factory, and I do not want to skimp on those couple of options.
