Long time lurker, first time poster. I've seen bit and pieces of information about the process, but wonder if you folks can help me understand exactly how it all works. I reserved 5/21 and don't expect to get my truck anytime soon, but confused if Ford or the dealer will determine when I can order. I know dealers prioritize some reservations and are allocated few trucks. Question is: did the dealer provide that prioritized list of reservations to Ford before being allocated trucks, or does Ford allocate trucks and the dealer goes down their prioritized list to have Ford send out the order invites?
A rep from my dealer indicated that it's up to Ford and totally out of their hands. When asked specifics, this person and the manager were vague and basically said they didn't know anything because ford keeps them in the dark. They couldn't (or just wouldn't) tell me where I am on the reservation list. He knew that they have 275 reservations and converted 4 so far. I'm naturally suspicious of anything a dealer says...

yes, yes, maybe, and no... or something like that :)

you, me, and everyone else would like to know, but few do.

Ford makes the rules, dealers just live by them.

Dealers can put their favored customers at the top of their own list, and maybe that helps those customers get picked to order ahead of others, but it's really unclear if that's the case, or not. Ford makes the decisions about what reservations get to order, not the dealers. Yes, the dealers are out of the loop on that part, but they also have some play in prioritizing their own customers, if they so choose. Dealers, though, are sales people, they are not going to always tell the whole story, as they don't want YOU to be aggravated or hold it against them if you were to find out that YOU were not a priority.
My dealer told me that they had made me Priority ONE for their dealership the day the order banks opened up, but, then again, I had already received my 'place your order' email from Ford. The dealer was just acknowledging to me that they knew I was the only order they had, even if they didn't realize it.
Yes, I was a day one reservation and day one order, but still, there were PLENTY of Lightnings arriving to dealers ahead of me that were placed by customers who didn't even order until JUNE!
And, I don't even have mine yet. : /

go figure...

There has been plenty of speculation about dealer priority. I've not noticed anything specific.

But when it is your turn to order you will get an email to do so. However you can also just log into your account on Ford.com and under reservations you'll have the option to order. Once you do put your order in, you go to the dealer and sign paper for the order (this is when you'll find out if you might get hit with ADM). Then they submit the order and you'll get another green check box in your account on the Ford site. Then more waiting.

You'll get your build week and VIN eventually. All comes through emails but you can find out a bit sooner if you have the right information.

My sales guy didn't even have my build week until I told him. At some point they are able to look up where it is if they have your vin because the dealer has a system that gives them info you don't have access to.

But there is some truth to the dealer being in the dark. Raptor and Raptor R allocations go to specific dealers.

In the instances in which someone has gotten their Lightning ordered/delivered and they reserved after you, from what I've seen, those are in the areas in which the dealer didn't get any day one reservation holders. Ford stated earlier that they want the Lightning everywhere, so if a dealer got just one reservation and that happened to be 8/01/21 then they were getting a MY22.

Hell, I know they are a global company but I didn't like seeing Canada getting any before those of us in the states.
