I placed my reservation for a 2022 Lightning in May 2021 like many, many others. It cost $100 (via credit card) to place that reservation.

I was lucky enough to be able to place an order for a 2022 Lightning in January 2022. It cost $500 (via credit card) to place the order.

I received and purchased my truck in mid-July 2022 and am very pleased with it so far.

When I asked my dealer about the $600 reservation and ordering charges, my dealer told me that these charges would be refunded by Ford. The dealer told me that they did not receive this money and that Ford was the recipient.

If true, when should I expect a refund? Do I have to request it? Or, is my dealer incorrect in his statement about where the money went?

I ask this question because the $600 was not considered in my sales agreement with my dealership.

Thank you for your responses.

The deposit went straight to the chosen dealer at time of reservation and also when ordering.

The dealer owes you $600. Credit card statement will show the charges went to the named dealer.

I just looked at my past credit card statements for the periods involved -- and there is no question -- the $600 went to my dealership.

I will be making a trip down there today.

Thanks, again!

Did it not show up as being taken off of your selling price when you purchased it? This was a snip I just took of my account.

I had the exact SAME aggravation with my own local dealer, who stated that they had no 'record' of any Reservation or Order deposit from me.
I had to spend hours SEARCHING for 7 to 15 month old credit card statements to 'prove' to them that, YES, it certainly went to THEM, with THEIR DEALERSHIP NAME on the card statement.
It took them DAYS later to FINALLY admit that, yes, they had received them and I would receive a refund, via a check, since I had already purchased the truck. I had notified them of these deposits at the time of the paperwork, but I didn't want it to hold up the sale - I don't think they really believed me when I first mentioned it.

They also refunded another $200+ from the purchase, in a separate check. This was due to them having charged me the full Georgia EV Fee, for a FULL YEAR, even though the purchase was on AUGUST 23rd. I only should have paid about $58 for the prorated time left in my registration 'year'.

Oh, it showed up there. They did their best to ignore it. My dealer was working from a completely different set of data. They acknowledged the $500 because 'that's what we do when we do customer orders'. They still acted like I stole the $100 reservation deposit from them despite the CC transaction showing it going directly to the dealer on 5/19/21. Last word on that was they were going to get it back from Ford.

On a side note, I would encourage everyone to go through the buying process online from the Ford email that gives you the link. It works from the online order form as shown in 3rdgenfan's attachment. Print it and take it with you to the dealer. It saved me from about $325 of their dealer fees and $100 shipping increase.

@Voltz is right and I'm having the same issue as @Lou C . I reached out to my dealer last week to get the refund check.

My dealer "forgot" to apply my $600 to the down payment. I called them the next day and they had a check waiting for me when I got there - did not even question a thing. So I think some dealers are waiting for the customer to remember since there was many months between when this was paid and the truck was actually purchased.

Most dealers seem to forget the deposits. I think this will change when they start using the new customer portal and you can complete the sale online - those will surely show up and be much easier to get applied to the purchase price.

To say the least - this is on the DEALER to refund, and it will take them no more than about 4 clicks in the Customer Portal online. I sat there while my dealer did it - it took less than 30 seconds. Have them pull you up in the customer portal. It will show deposits and it seemed there may have been a Refund button they clicked. I had the money back on my credit card 3 days later.

I visited my dealer this morning after confirming that the dealer was the recipient of the $600 for reserving and ordering my truck. Thank goodness for online credit card statements. Finding the two transactions ($100 and $500) was a piece of cake even though I used two different credit cards (a VISA and a Discover).

My dealer did not argue with me and agreed that I was entitled to a refund. The $600 was not part of the sales transaction, so I was justified in requesting a refund.

My dealer accessed the appropriate Ford financial data base, clicked on "refund", and that was it. As a safeguard, my dealer gave me a copy of the transaction data just in case the refunds did not process in a timely manner.

I received two separate email notes from Ford letting me know that the refund transactions were being processed. The email notes told me to check my Ford.com account (link provided) for more info.

I just checked my credit card accounts online, and both refunds have already been posted -- even though both credit card numbers were changed since the reservation and order transactions were input in May 2021 and January 2022, respectively.

I am very pleased with the outcome!!!

I arrived at my dealer's location at 9;30 AM, and the refunds were posted to my credit card accounts before noon the same day.
