This is tough to write as my first thread here. Was so incredibly happy to get my Lightning. Drove it ONE day before I noticed oil leaking from the rear motor.

BLUF - I’m more than 30 days with my Lightning stuck in the shop for repair an there are NO parts available to fix it!!!

If anyone at Ford sees this please please help and I’ll share why.

My local dealer did well getting the truck in and got me into a rental (another story). Diagnosed as a cross-threaded fill plug. Something so simple and yet an incredibly difficult situation.

Ford supplied a replacement motor, but one-time use hardware they say is NOT available. Ford’s supplier is saying they don’t have parts. Ford is saying they don’t have parts and won’t take anything from the production supply. All they will say is no parts are available and no one will give me a timeline.

The dealer here says they are following Ford’s guidance. I’ve tried calling Ford directly and just get bumped from department to department with no one knowing how to help nor taking ownership to help me.

Through this it appeared the dealer here had to figure out a parts list. After two rounds of ordering parts they realized more parts were needed. Here is where they ran into the NO parts available issue and we are stuck. It appears there was no prepared guidance for motor replacement.

Being such an incredibly important vehicle for Ford, what would be fair to expect them to do? I’d think they’d get engineers involved and get someone down here with parts asap. I’m worried because no one is taking ownership and I’m stuck without my Lightning.

This past week we hit 30 days. I’m glad I found this forum. Any advice is super appreciated. Sorry if I’m coming through upset, I certainly am. I’ve driven EVs for several years and never an issue like this.

Sorry to hear you're OOS, basically for a drain plug problem. You could try tagging @Ford Motor Company with your posts or DM them through this forum.

You could also try to specifically ask for the Lightning team at this number: ‭(800) 334-4375‬

He may need to make a couple more posts to be able to DM. I'm not sure the requirement for new accounts.
@PDWebb77 should be able to use the start conversation tab. If you have an issue, let me know.

Another Lightning owner had a similar issue and the dealer resolved it. I don't know if it involved any parts.

I assume this thread is focused on getting the permanent replacement part from Ford.
Meanwhile I am presuming you can still drive the truck and are just annoyed at the oil dripping out?

If you want to fix it yourself:
Can you get the plug to stay in the hole? Seems like enough sealant could be used to essentially just glue it in. How often does that fluid even need to be changed?

Or drill out the hole with the damaged threads and re-tap it for the next larger thread size and get a new plug.

For clarity - the leak is from an issue at the point of assembly, when the motor was first put together - the cross-threaded plug. This is not a traditional cross threaded drain plug from an ICE oil change. No on touched this rear motor and this is how it was built unfortunately.

@CDT No luck today, no response. I’ll keep trying. All the dealer will say at this point, we don’t have the parts.
You could try @mrlevine "Proud dad. Ford North America Product Communications director" on Twitter. He has been responsive in the past. Good luck!

Exactly the same for me, drove my lightning ONE day before I noticed an oil leak from the front motor! The plug was extremely tight and crossthreaded! Ford needs to adjust the robot that installs these plugs! A human would start the plug by hand and crossthreading would be impossible. Frustrating, to say the least.
