Hello! I just picked my truck up today and I love it! this may be too soon to ask, but my range seems to drop much faster than my actual miles driven. '23 Lariat ER, temp today was between 30-40 degrees F

I picked the truck up with 43 miles on the odometer and it said it had 306 miles of range available. i drove 8 miles to home and it showed 280 left in the tank. Then i got back in a couple hours later and it dropped to 270, Im assuming from the cold, and drove 5 miles, but it dropped to 260 miles available. Then took my wife around the block, 8 miles and it shows 240 now. Total ODO shows 67 miles on it but only 240 available, meaning the truck thinks i drove 70 miles today with a real distance of 20.

Am i looking to closely at this? I just want to nip it in the bud with the dealer if there is something wrong.

I get the whole variable range depending on driving style...

I can guarantee I am averaging less than 150 per tank on an extended range battery. Total garbage.
You're guaranteeing that you've not been able to actually drive 150 miles with a charged ER battery? And, your truck is total garbage? And, you also say that you understand the range difference caused by driving style? What kind of energy consumption are you seeing per mile? You control that.

What you're seeing is almost certainly normal behavior. There are lots of threads here on this subject. Check them out. Most threads started with complaints about the initial range guess number displayed to be too low at the beginning of the drive. So, Ford updated the software with a DTE (Distance To Empty) update. Now, it shows a high number and drops quickly without seemingly considering previous driving habits. Basically, what you're seeing is a result of people saying they want to see a big range estimate to make them feel better.

Cold weather is a range killer. Moving and heating a big vehicle requires a lot of energy. There is no voodoo alchemy that can beat physics. If the consumption shows 2.0 miles per kilowatt hour with a 131 kilowatt hour battery, you're not going to drive any more than 262 miles. You can maximize range by driving slower, pre-conditioning the vehicle using shore power from home charging, and turning the cabin heater down. Or, driving the vehicle like you want to, not worrying about things, and charging more.

Have you tried turning on 1 pedal driving yet? I did that and my range almost doubled from 2.mi/kWh to 3.8 mi/kWh! I don't like driving it as much in 1 pedal, but if worried about range.....

Is your actual range dropping or is your Guess-o-meter learning how you drive and the conditions outside?

I have the same ER Lariat. The drop is almost certainly due to the fact that the computer is factoring in how much energy you're using because of the cold weather. You should end up dropping down to around 225 miles of highway range (65-70 mph) with temps in that range. When I reset the gauge per Ford's instructions, mine also started dropping quickly. I get 275 miles in the warm months on the highways.

The calm screen will give you battery percentage which is a better indicator of what is left out of 130 kwh. Using that with your driving style and condition (miles/kWh) average you can get better estimate of range.

Rather than depend on the range estimate, I am focusing on the kw/100 km or mi/kw. I was expecting at least 2 mi/kw on the highway. I live in the mountains and it doesn't seem to make a difference if I am going into the mountains or driving out of the mountains, my range is about 40 kw/100 km, or about 1.5 mi/kw. That means my 2023 platinum will only get about 328 km, or 203 miles on a full charge. Is this similar to other platinum owners experience?

Agreed. Energy efficiency is the important metric to go by, not a black box range guess with insufficient input data.

Please note that in all cases in your post, it should read kWh, not kw.

Thanks for the units comment. You are of course correct. I was being sloppy and inaccurate. Something in the back if my head noticed, but I failed to make the connection this early in the AM.

Back on topic. The range estimate is a recipe for disaster. Plan you trip based on kWh’s and you can’t go wrong. I am using 131 kWh battery capacity.
