9. Can home charging be scheduled to avoid peak time of use costs between 4 & 9pm?
"PRO SERIES-STANDARD EQUIPMENT-page- 3 -
● FordPass App Features:— Schedule times to charge your vehicle and set charge
level notifications"
As a Mustang Mach E owner, I know the answer is yes. You can manually set up to 2 charging periods per day. If you tell it your location and power provider it can often automatically set up optimal charging periods based on your time of day rates.

3. Can the safety option of "co-pilot360 assist 2.0 Technology" with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane-Centering, and Speed Sign Recognition be added to Pro model or 311A XLT later? It has the cameras and forward collision sensing, so might be possible? What is the standard "forward sensing" included?
All of the sources are clear that the Co-Pilot360 assist 2.0 is not available on the Pro. It doesn't have the same sensor suite as the XLT. I'll ask about adding it later to the XLT and get clarification on how the Pro and XLT sensors are different.

yep, the CoPilot 360 naming can get confusing for us new to the 'copilot' branding, as I wasn't aware for the longest time of the differences when you add the additional 'assist' and 'active' to the name. Sad, but it's the nature of technology - before long, only the 'base' model will get the 'active', while the upscale models have moved on to even more and better technology.

Mike Levine set up for me to meet with Herschel Wourman, the manager for the Ford display. Herschel was great. He had Sarah, a Lightning Product Specialist, show me around the Lightning inside and out. He and Sarah then started answering my questions. Since the questions went deeper than his product knowledge, he called in one of their head product trainers, Ray, to answer what they could and are having me email the rest to pass along to others with more expertise.

Here's the full set of questions I went to the show with:

1. Ordering and Production
a. Why is the Pro no longer available for retail customers?
b. What was the limit set at?
c. What will be the date of the last wave of orders for 2022 models?
d. Which Trims are most likely to be produced the quickest?
e. Any word on when scheduling will begin? How about production?
f. Will dealers receive FCTP units before customer deliveries? When are those expected to arrive?
g. Are ZEV states being prioritized for orders &/or deliveries?
h. The Lightning is built in a new portion of the Rouge facility. Are the bodies stamped and painted in the main Rouge facility or in the new portion?

2. Charging, and home power transfer options
a. What additional equipment is required for the Intelligent Backup Power?
b. What size power feed and panel are required for Intelligent Backup Power?
c. How could a typical home 200Amp load panel be tied in?
d. The eSourceBook implies the 9.6kW Pro Power Onboard is required for Intelligent Backup Power. Is that true?
e. Does anyone know if the Ford 80A unit can be used for charging on a lower amperage circuit (like the Ford Connected Charge Station), say 40A?
f. Is there a plan to expand the adapters that come with the mobile power cord?
g. Will the charging software be upgraded to control the rate at which the truck charges?
h. Will one membership fee to the Blue Oval charging network work on multiple vehicles?

3. Driving Assistance Features
a. Can the safety option of “Co-pilot360 Assist 2.0 Technology" with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane-Centering, and Speed Sign Recognition be added to 311A XLT later?
b. How are the cameras and sensors different between the Pro and the XLT?
c. What does the standard "forward sensing system” include?
d. A customer noticed on another vehicle that "lane keeping" cuts out on fairly minor curves in the road. Will the Lightning "Co-pilot360 assist 2.0 Technology" or other steering related ability handle curves without kicking off and giving a warning beep?
e. What are the features of the Advance Track with Roll Stability Control and Curve Control?

4. Towing
a. What are the features of the Tow Technology Package and the Max Tow Package?
b. Why is Max Tow separate from Tow Tech?
c. Why are extendible towing mirrors not available? Will they be available later?
d. What is in the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System / Customer-Placed Trailer Camera? Is the camera integrated into the Sync screen or does it require a separate display?

5. Pro Power Onboard
a. Can any/all of the outlets be used while the vehicle is charging? Running?
b. Can bed power outlets be used when it is possible that rain or a hose spray might hit them? Maybe it just trips a breaker?

6. Exterior
a. Does Mega Power Frunk lid have protection against coming down on a kid's fingers?
b. Power Deployable running boards are not an option in the build & price tool. When will they be available as an option?
c. What has been done to make it the most aerodynamic Lightning ever?

7. Interior
a. What are black cloth seats for XLT made of?
b. How comfortable, yet good wearing, are they?
c. Ditto for the Lariat
d. Is it possible to order an extended range Lariat without the twin-panel moonroof?
e. Does the heating system use battery or motor heat to make heating more efficient?
f. Is there a plan to incorporate a heat pump into the Lightning?

8. Battery
a. Is the battery bank upgradable as new battery technologies come online?

9. Bed/Cab Options
Will different cab/bed configurations be offered in the future? Specifically the 6.5’ bed?

10. Tow-Behind
a. Will an option for flat towing become available?

11.Technology
a. What features are in the Advanced Security Pack?

I'll post the answers twice, first the answers I received today, then the responses I get later.

Today's responses below. Important note: I was not allowed to record the conversation so I typed up these notes from memory. Errors are mine.

1. Ordering and Production
e. Any word on when scheduling will begin? How about production?
Ray's understanding is deliveries should start in the summer.

f. Will dealers receive FCTP units before customer deliveries? When are those expected to arrive?
Yes, FCTP units (demos, mannequins) will arrive first.

g. Are ZEV states being prioritized for orders &/or deliveries?
Not that he is aware of.

h. The Lightning is built in a new portion of the Rouge facility. Are the bodies stamped and painted in the main Rouge facility or in the new portion?
Body stamping is in the main facility. Frame construction and painting are in the new EV facility.

2. Charging, and home power transfer options
a. What additional equipment is required for the Intelligent Backup Power?
They didn't have the list of equipment but depending on the installation it could be several $K to $10K.

d. The eSourceBook implies the 9.6kW Pro Power Onboard is required for Intelligent Backup Power. Is that true?
Yes. Intelligent Backup Power is available with either battery but requires the 9.6kW Pro Power Onboard and 80A Pro charger.

e. Does anyone know if the Ford 80A unit can be used for charging on a lower amperage circuit (like the Ford Connected Charge Station), say 40A?
Unknown

g. Will the charging software be upgraded to control the rate at which the truck charges?
Not at this time.

h. Will one membership fee to the Blue Oval charging network work on multiple vehicles?
Ray didn't know -- however, I had asked this question of another source within Ford as well. His answer was:
  • If one VIN in your FP account has a subscriptions to BOCN and BO EA – you can access and pay for either vehicle by activating the charger through the FordPass interface.
  • The one piece that doesn’t currently work this way is Plug & Charge. Due to the unique protocols and security comms between vehicle/charger our system is currently setup for a subscription to be tied with one VIN.
  • Again – we are working through how to shift these paradigms, but haven’t cracked it yet.

3. Driving Assistance Features
a. Can the safety option of “Co-pilot360 Assist 2.0 Technology" with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane-Centering, and Speed Sign Recognition be added to 311A XLT later?
No, there are hardware requirements not found in 311A vehicles.

d. A customer noticed on another vehicle that "lane keeping" cuts out on fairly minor curves in the road. Will the Lightning "Co-pilot360 assist 2.0 Technology" or other steering related ability handle curves without kicking off and giving a warning beep?
These are continually being improved.

e. What are the features of the Advance Track with Roll Stability Control and Curve Control?
Multiple sensors will detect issues with stability and adjust braking and power in the four wheels to adjust.

4. Towing
a. What are the features of the Tow Technology Package and the Max Tow Package?
b. Why is Max Tow separate from Tow Tech?
The Tow Technology Package includes various components to facilitate towing. Max Tow adds some suspension features to allow the truck to handle heavier loads.

d. What is in the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System / Customer-Placed Trailer Camera? Is the camera integrated into the Sync screen or does it require a separate display?
This is a dealer-installed option that connects to the truck through the 10-pin connector. It is a hard-wired, rather than wireless system and the camera views are integrated into the truck's Sync display.

5. Pro Power Onboard
a. Can any/all of the outlets be used while the vehicle is charging? Running?
Yes and Yes.
b. Can bed power outlets be used when it is possible that rain or a hose spray might hit them? Maybe it just trips a breaker?
Yes they can. They are GCFI protected.

6. Exterior
a. Does Mega Power Frunk lid have protection against coming down on a kid's fingers?
Yes. [I tested it personally. While there is a sensor, it requires significant pressure to cause it to stop]

b. Power Deployable running boards are not an option in the build & price tool. When will they be available as an option?
Unknown. Ray's guess is it is a supplier issue.

c. What has been done to make it the most aerodynamic Lightning ever?
A variety of small things. The frunk, the air dam, wheel well air pillows, the full under-body cladding.

7. Interior
c. What are black seats for Lariat made of?
They seem to be the Active-X used in the Mach E.

d. Is it possible to order an extended range Lariat without the twin-panel moonroof?
Unknown if this can be deleted from orders.

e. Does the heating system use battery or motor heat to make heating more efficient?
Not that he is aware.

f. Is there a plan to incorporate a heat pump into the Lightning?
Has not heard anything.

8. Battery
a. Is the battery bank upgradable as new battery technologies come online?
Not that he knows of.

9. Bed/Cab Options
Will different cab/bed configurations be offered in the future? Specifically the 6.5’ bed?
No plans have been announced yet but such changers will likely happen at some point. Ford's focus on providing what work customers need will require more flexible options.

10. Tow-Behind
a. Will an option for flat towing become available?
Because of the design of the truck there is nothing that makes this possible at this time.

11.Technology
a. What features are in the Advanced Security Pack?
Additional sensors, including a pressure sensor to detect broken windows and a tilt sensor to detect towing.

Thanks for the taking the time to talk to the folks at the auto show. To confirm, is the info you provided all that they answered from your large list of questions?
Yes, the folks who were there could only answer some of the questions. However, they are sending the full list of questions on to their head trainer to dig up more answers. Stay tuned!

4B seems to conflict with some other ford statements that say the difference is “extra motor and battery cooling”, and suspension is NOT changed. Did they say anything about cooling?

Wasn’t my place to contradict other folks from Ford, but that’s my understanding as well (what was stated on this video).

I appreciate the 'real world' ride around the farm - and the fact that a very confident driver with fluency and flow of speech doesn't let that get in the way of explaining how this works for all of us, in all our various needs and situations. Thank you Ford - you've made my decision even more assured. One-pedal driving is fantastic. Having the ability to charge batteries or have things using the electrical outlets while underway is also a plus - yes, it's just a very LARGE generator. Camping will never be the same again. Also, the suggestion that most truck owners don't drive enough to warrant a larger battery makes the most sense of anyone I've heard, yet - we don't need a thousand mile battery to warrant an 'equal' comparison to 'normal' vehicles. Fantastic. : ) Keep up the good work...

They not mention extra motor and battery cooling. I specifically asked if it included extra motor and battery cooling and they said not to their knowledge.

Remember that these are contractors working to promote Ford vehicles at trade shows. While they know the vehicles very well, there could be some areas where they are not well informed.

h. The Lightning is built in a new portion of the Rouge facility. Are the bodies stamped and painted in the main Rouge facility or in the new portion?
Body stamping is in the main facility. Frame construction and painting are in the new EV facility.
I've read from a source who works in the plant that the Lightning body parts are painted in the original plant, then sent over to the new plant for assembly.
