Wheel Tire Land vehicle Vehicle Building

On Monday I'll be visiting the Washington DC Auto Show and will have a chance to get a close look at the Lightning and ask product specialists about the truck. What questions do you want answered about the Lightning?

These will be most likely be product specialists, not engineers or executives. They are unlikely to give answers about the allocation process or ordering priorities. They may be short on why things were done on the truck. They should be strong on how it is built, the features, the capabilities, etc.

Fire away! No promises I'll get answers but I'll do what I can.

Thanks for the offer! I would ask about the ordering and production schedules, just in case they have some insights. I wonder what model they will have available to touch?
1. Build limits for various models this year, like why was Pro no longer avaliable? What was the limit set at? Date of last wave accepting offers that will be issued? Production dates or model most likely to be produced the quickest? Broncos took 11 months to deliver last year?
2. Details and examples of 80Amp Charge Station Pro and home power transfer options, for instance, how would a typical home 200Amp load panel be tied in? Not likely they will have info on this, but worth a try.
3. Can the safety option of "co-pilot360 assist 2.0 Technology" with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane-Centering, and Speed Sign Recognition be added to Pro model or 311A XLT later? It has the cameras and forward collision sensing, so might be possible? What is the standard "forward sensing" included?
4. Last quarter in 2022 that the $7500 tax rebate will be available for Ford? Might as well ask. Do they think the $7500 will be extended by Congress?
5. Why is Max Tow separate from Tow Tech? Which includes truck scale for loads?
-Max Trailer Tow Package (req. Pro Power Onboard – 9.6 kW (479) w/ std battery).
-Tow Technology Package (Incl. 360-Degree Camera, Mirrors, Sideview – Manual-folding, Power Glass with Heat, Turn Signal and Black Skull Caps and LED Sideview Mirror Spotlights).

5.5 The 360 degree camera is standard equipment on XLT, so why same Tow Tech price for the Pro vs. an XLT?
#5: Cutler03GT "It’s not. It’s $553 less on an XLT. Presumably because of that difference. "
6. Can bed power outlets be used when it is possible that rain or a hose spray might hit them? Maybe it just trips a breaker...how to reset?
7. What is "curve control"?
#6: Cutler03GT "From an article on the Ford media site:
Curve Control senses a driver taking a curve too quickly and responds by rapidly reducing engine torque, applying four-wheel braking when needed."

8. Does powered Frunk lid have protection against coming down on a kid's fingers?
9. Can home charging be scheduled to avoid peak time of use costs between 4 & 9pm?
"PRO SERIES-STANDARD EQUIPMENT-page- 3 -
● FordPass App Features:— Schedule times to charge your vehicle and set charge
level notifications"

10. What are black cloth seats for XLT made of? How comfortable, yet good wearing, are they? We like the leatherette seats in our 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid, especially for comfort.
11. I notice on another vehicle that "lane keeping" cuts out on fairly minor curves in the road. Will the Lightning "Co-pilot360 assist 2.0 Technology" or other steering related ability handle curves without kicking off and giving a warning beep? Lane keeping, and adaptive cruise control, are so nice to prevent unintended lane crossing when distracted for a moment. Just close your eyes and drive...
Good luck in getting some new information! Turn on your smartphone voice recorder app?

One good question I saw on here: Can the Pro Power outlets be on while the truck is charging?
That one has been answered already. All of the outlets can be used while the vehicle is charging.

Here's one from @JDRZ in another thread:
"Does anyone know if the Ford 80A unit can be used for charging on a lower amperage circuit, say 40A?"

I would like to know exactly what equipment changes are included in the Max Trailer Towing package ($865). Thanks!
I haven’t seen it detailed publicly, so I don’t think I can say. But it’s pretty interesting and probably surprising. Hopefully they’ll be allowed to answer that question.

One thing I'm wondering, which I've seen absolutely zero discussion of regarding the Lightning, is whether the Lightning will have regenerative braking and one-pedal driving. I think the Mach-E has both, and I know a lot of EVs have those capabilities. Does the Lightning have them as well, and if not, why?

That's easy. Yes and yes.

One more thing I'm wondering is if there's been any planning, or even discussions, about eventually offering different cab/bed configurations. Specifically wondering if future MYs might be offered with a 6 1/2 ft bed.

I'll ask to see if anything has changed. In the long run the answer has been yes. However, there are enough reservations for the current configuration for all trucks to be built in at least 2022-23, probably 2024 as well. Other configurations may not happen until the redesign which means 2025 or so.

I bet that would allow for a larger battery, more range, as well?

Perhaps but I don't think space was the limiting factor on the amount of battery installed. I'm guessing it was more related to price.

However, you will note from the picture below that the battery is under the cab, not the bed.

Here's a link to my best guess on availability of the current $7500 tax credit:
