Solid State Batteries Shipped to Auto Makers -- a deceitful headline made me think my Lightning battery was obsolete. Still a milestone, but turns out batteries shipped are for testing and feedback - we are still five to ten years from getting them in production cars.

Per QuantumScape CEO and cofounder Jagdeep Singh:

...this milestone brings us closer to our ultimate goal, there’s still a lot to do before this technology becomes a commercial product.

So this is testing, not production. But it still a milestone and what I plan to put in my Lightning in ten years.

Solid state batteries advantages are:
  1. More energy in a smaller space, like double.
  2. No risk of leakage or spillage, reducing overheating and fire risk.
  3. Longer lifespan.
  4. Higher charge and discharge rates meaning faster charging, like 15 minutes to go 800 miles.

While many think better DCFC are the "be all end all" to spur adoption, you give me a Lightning with a 500 mile range, I'd probably never consider another ICE vehicle.
