Ford should have only released the higher trims initially, they were more realistically priced. The prices on the Pro and XLT were disingenuous from the start, Ford couldn't afford to make them. They should have halted ordering and fulfilled the orders they had. Ford should have made a statement that they grossly miscalculated the costs of producing those trims. That is the truth, not parts/chip shortages etc. escalating costs.

The current generation of Lightning is a “First Inning” BEV according to Farley. It is an ice modified platform with no profit margins even on higher priced models. It was to achieve first to market advantage, but going forward it’s going to be a challenge against GMs upcoming bespoke trucks. Even the bespoke GM EV trucks will struggle to make money initially. Ford doesn’t want to sell the Pro and XLT even at the current prices. They are only producing them for marketing purposes and realizing the losses as such. What a disaster the Lightning reservation system has been.

a bunch of crap right here…

Ford can’t control all the variables that hit them at the same time - chips shortage, war, rare materials shortage, China decouple….

Variables aside, Ford could never profit at introductory prices of the Pro or XLT trims, it wasn’t even close. They still can’t with the increased prices irregardless of the headwinds you mentioned. It cost Tesla $36k to make the base TM3 which has a smaller 60kWh battery, bespoke platform, less parts, and is made in a 1/3 of the time. Why can you now buy a Lariat or Platinum off the showroom floor without markup? Many dealerships now have them in stock ready to buy. The Lightning Ford wants you to buy costs $75k+.

Dealers have Lightnings in stock “ready to buy” with no markup???

There are 200,000 reservations and only 13,000 trucks that have been delivered.

I haven’t heard of a place where you can just walk in and buy a Lightning for MSRP.

If you search hard enough and long enough they do pop up. However, they are few and far between.

A lot of those 200,000 reservations are for lower priced trims. The macro economic environment is making it difficult for buyers to afford higher priced trim levels and Ford can't afford to sell lower priced ones. This is why markups will be going away on Lariat and Platinum trim levels and availability will be increasing in most markets going forward. A Cars.com search 100 miles from 06109 where I am located in CT shows 100 Lightings for sale. Granted some might be demo listings, but only 3 are for Lightings below $60K and 41 are below $80k. John McElroy on the most recent podcast of Autoline After Hours mentioned the availability of Lightnings and lack of markup.

Just a reminder, reservations are for Lightnings. Trim is determined at the time of order. You are probably correct that many reservation holders are hoping to order lower priced trims.

I too am seeing a surprising number of Lightnings all of a sudden show up on lots. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them are SRs. The SR works well only for a very small slice of the market, so those are going to pile up at discounted prices soon.

Those of us waiting for invites will get them soon, so holding out for my minty fresh ER.❤

Especially in colder environments or where charging networks aren't as robust. The lack of a heat pump only worsens the range issues.
I was able to place an order on 8/11/22 for a SR Pro. I received an email weeks ago that it is in production and was to be built last week (12/5), no news yet. Why I was allowed to place an order, I am not sure, but I do know the process wasn't fair. Since the most recent price increase, the truck I ordered is $16k dearer. The truck is no longer eligible for my state's EV rebate due to the price increases and its up to Ford if they will honor MY2022 prices. What a ride this process has been.

That’s because most mannequins were SR Lariats.

personally with hindsight of owning one the SR should be discontinued immediately in my opinion.
Certainly hope they don't do that....at least not until after my Pro is built next month.
I don't quite understand all of the whining, if a SR won't work for you....don't buy one. There are thousands of us who live 10 or 20 miles from work, or are retired, or have other vehicles in the stable more suited for road trips. Not everyone needs a truck to do 300 non stop miles.

to each his own but i do not get 300 miles i get 300 km (186 miles) that is first correction, you did not mention ever needing to tow anything with an SR so that is another point. Anyways I was not really being serious to tell Ford how to run their business i just think a vehicle needs the capability of a bit of range for the unknown and at 300 km max range I get at least in cooler weather and needing 70-75 miles per hour highway (just to keep up with flow) it seems to me that the 300 km compared to a f150 gas at 1200 km per tank should be the min spec. Oh and I have other vehicles to do road trips with to me that is your situation but not all can afford a truck just for the small stuff and keep a gasser truck for the road trips, just my 2 cents on the SR batt nothing more. 😎
