I wondering if anyone has connected a dash cam to power source other than the 12v dash plug, it is a bit annoying to have it plugged in there and want to more or less hard wire the dash cam. I have not started to look around but hoping someone has done this already and can share their experience.

I installed this one that plugs into the rearview mirror. There are coupon codes available that helped, still a little pricey, but worth it for the clean install.

I installed this one as well. Fairly clean install only took about 15 minutes but has some cable mess in front of the rear view mirror. I bought the one with the rear facing camera. Has WiFi for downloading / viewing video on phone but the app is clunky (I have to disable cellular data for it to work).

I’ve had a bunch ofdashcam over the years and this is the best forfast clean install. Picture quality is good and price ~200 for high res dual camera with WiFi and 128 card included was in line

I used the Dongar 16-pin adapter. It splices off USB power from the existing harness for the rear view mirror. Plug and play install only took a minute and is very compact - hidden completely behind the mirror. I went with the Garmin Mini 2 camera, but the adapter is compatible with any standard USB. Note that this harness is only powered when the truck is running, so you don't get the option to record while parked/off.
