The lightning comes with 250 KWH of free charging through the Blue-Oval network. (Right now just Electrify America?)

Pretty sure it's set up correctly in the FordPass app and in the car settings.

Went to an Electrify America charger yesterday. Plugged in. Waited. Nothing. ended up having to use the Electrify America app and got charged for the charge. (zing).

Anybody else have issues with "Plug & Charge" not working?

Have you checked your connected services page on the FordPass app or via your account on the Ford website? It should show something like this:

If you click on Manage, at the bottom do you see a credit card listed?

In the Ford Pass app under Charging/Blue Oval Charge Network/ Plug & Charge do you see P&C activated?

Yep. Just checked again... and everything looks in order there. CC# is present and it says It's on and I'm enrolled.
You may want to call Ford Customer Service.

Are you the original owner of the vehicle? or was it represented to you as new from a dealership but actually used?

Plug and Charge does not work in my vehicle either. Neither Plug and Charge nor the BlueOval network. At. All.
I have had 3 service tickets opened with Ford since August when I purchased the truck.
Each call is approximately 2 hours long and involves several transfers.

Literally, just hung up with Ford right now where they told me that Plug&Charge is only available to the original vehicle owner and there are no plans to make it available to subsequent owners and that BlueOval EA chargers are also only available to the original vehicle owners.

Could the agent have possibly been trying to tell you that specifically in reference to the free 250 kWh from EA that may have been forfeited by the original owner?

You could try calling Electrify America and see if they can set you up with P&C, or tell you why you can't get set up. Or, try to escalate the problem by tagging @Ford Motor Company on social media.

I was very specific in my conversation that it was not about the free charging. My tickets (multiple) over the past 3 months have all been supposedly escalatef, but this latest one is the only one I have gotten any response from and that was this call back from someone in Marketing of all places. The only route I think.left is to call them out on social media - loudly. I honestly cannot believe that BlueOval is only available to original owners.

I’m pretty new here, it took me a few times to figure things out:
  1. Plug And Charge isn’t working for me at all at EA. It says payment declined and in fact makes it difficult to impossible to actually start a session at all, even via the EA membership pass
  2. Using FordPass’s charger screen to activate a specific charging stall DOES work, and in this way you can use your free 250kWh. However if an EA station is set to complimentary sessions, then you can’t activate it via the app
Honestly this charging situation is probably the biggest gap from Tesla…. It’s kind of a mess and takes a lot of tribal knowledge combined with additional research when in a Tesla you can just blindly trust the in car nav and things work out.

If Plug & charge won’t work be sure to initiate the charge session from the app, the plug the CCS connector into the truck.

Thanks for the tip! Yeah so at the bright green lit EA stations this is a breeze. But at the slightly older EA stations, they don’t respect an activation request before you plug in — there’s like a brief 3 second window where you plug in and immediately activate on the phone. If you miss that window you have to wait almost a minute through all the error and summary screens before allowing another try.

I just went through this and posted about this terrible policy. Didn’t see your post. I got the same raw deal. Fine don’t give me the free 250 kW, but I cant use the network?? No where does it say that…at least in print big enough i can read.

I just bought a mannequin In late December. It had 111 miles on it. My contract for it was signed in like August. It was registered to the dealership. Some of my paperwork says it is new and some says used. No one told me anything about the free 250 kw. What do I need to know? Like how do I get signed up for it.

So am I entitled to the free juice? And I do plan on claiming the old law $7500 tax credit. I’ll go to the mat for that but is it likely the dealership registered it so as to take that credit. If so would it have been required by IRS to hold it for longer than the Ford mannequin 6 month period.

I cannot turn on the toggle for "Plug & Charge".
  • My CC is in properly (confirmed by support).
  • I'm original owner.
  • I've spent ~16 hours with 'every' department that Ford support has and they've not been able to solve it.
  • Their solution has been to create tickets and increase the priority of my ticket.
  • They've created 3 different tickets on this same issue - not sure why they didn't add to the first one.
  • This has been about 3 months with no response from their technical department.
  • When I call back in, they just say that they cannot talk to that department and that they must still be working on it.

    Not a happy customer. :^(

The IRS doesn't have a set time you are required to keep the vehicle if you claim the tax credit. You just can't buy the vehicle with the intent to resell, but that is sort of the main goal of a dealership.
I have read in other posts somewhere that some states require the dealership to register demo vehicles. Not sure if that is true.

If it doesn't work be sure to start the charge with the ford pass app, not the EA app.

Probably not helpful, but P&C is terrible after the 250KwH. To my knowledge, your EA pass does not work, so you are being charged the full rate. I stopped using P&C and find it was easier to kick things off from the EA app.

If you have the EA plan you will need to start the charge on your phone and then plug in to get the lower rate. P&C will not give you the lower rate.
