Issue Identified on Feb 1st, 2023, with rear reverse lighting on while vehicle is in drive position.

Issued Reported to Ford Envision on Feb 3rd. 2023 (identified problem (water intrusion) staff indicated part was on back order and wouldn’t be in until the end of February (still not in).

Staff indicated I could drive the vehicle and disregard the following law: CA Vehicle Code Division 12. Chapter 2. Article 3. Rear Lighting Equipment (24600-24617)

Additional Damage reported to Ford Envision on Feb 13, 2023 (Tailgate randomly going down and setting off alarm, Ford Envision indicated water intrusion to rear light assembly caused additional damage to surrounding wiring harness.),now I can't lock my vehicle without the alarm going off at random times during the day and vehicle is sitting at the dealership waiting for repairs.

Truck has approximately 7500 miles, dealership (Envision Ford) & corporate won't even provide me an equivalate vehicle. Any thoughts or anyone else run into a similar issue with warranty repair parts being on backorder and what path did you take to remedy the situation? Currently paying for car insurance and payment on a vehicle I don't get to use.

Recourse? Maybe consider this? CA Lemon Law 🤷‍♂️

I feel for you. This sucks.

First and foremost, I don’t think anyone made any deals with you that said while you were paying for a vehicle they’d be sure that you could drive it. I know it sucks to be making a payment on something and be unable to use it. Ford’s only obligation to you is to fix it. Parts on back order is a valid excuse. I get that it sucks, etc, just don’t mix all the other stuff in to your feelings about the situation. They owe you a repair and parts and they’re going to make good on that. Lemon law isn’t an option here. You’ve had one problem (even though you discovered a secondary affected part) and they haven’t had the opportunity to fix it yet due to the backordered part. Lemon law would be a bit premature.

So the real question is can it be made drivable while waiting on parts? That’s what I’d ask the dealer for help with.

Can they unplug the connector in to back up light? That would keep that light off and the only drawback is you’d be missing it in reverse. Seems livable.

Similarly, I’d think unplugging the connector to the tailgate controls would also work. Worst case, you can’t open the tailgate. Also livable while you wait on parts.

I’d likely even do those things myself because the dealer may squeal about liability of disabling a required light for operation.

Don’t get me wrong, your situation sucks, but I think you can work around it.

Lemon Law can be used once the truck is in the shop for 30 days, attorney indicated I should leave it there until all the recalls are resolved as well. Also indicated that I can sue them in small claims court, likely the dealer/FMC will ask utilize arbitration for a resolution, small claims court costs about $50 in my county. Money seems well worth it just to waste their time like they are doing to myself and others.

There may be a likely chance they will simply repurchase the vehicle from you without fuss, as this will allow them to resell the vehicle without it being labeled a lemon. If they go through the process and fight you, they will likely be required to repurchase and now they will have a harder time selling due to the lemon label (I had to lemon my Leaf, but Nissan repurchased without fuss). I should have recommended a law firm (I used California Lemon Law Attorneys | The Lemon Law Experts and had a good experience), but I'm betting just about any lemon law firm will produce similar results.

Good luck btw, hope you get the resolution you are looking for.
