So, I've been using Phone as a key (PAAK) for a long time. It has been pretty much flawless; occasionally it would not recognize that my phone was the key, but it wasn't very option. But lately, it has been pretty bad. I had my hands full, went to open the door; locked; nothing. I had to put all my stuff down, get out my phone, open the app; then it unlocked. Then... I dropped my wife off at the store (she has a key in her purse). As soon as she left; the car said no key detected. Again, I had to pull out my phone open the app. Still didn't work. Killed the app, reopened the app and it started working. I got so frustrated that I just put the other key in my pocket.

Wondering if a software update has broken this.

@Ford Motor Company - any ideas??

Mine was working great, or so I thought. Green checks in the app, bypass password set. After an update or some other catalyst, PAAK was fubar so I tried to delete and reset according to instructions. Now, I can't get PAAK to work at all. So yes, we're in the boat together.

Only counting on the phone to act as a fob can be risky. Phone could go dead, interference could cause no connection or a phone software issue could be a disaster. This is one of the reasons I keep a spare programmed key fob in a faraday bag locked in the center console safe. My Lightning has a doorpost keypad for entry into the truck. If that fails to open the door I keep the funny hard key in my wallet. I’m a belt and suspenders kind of guy.

I’ve occasionally had the truck not unlock when I approached and the door handle was grabbed. At those times I’ve had to use the doorpost keypad for entry. But so far PaaK has always worked to “start” the truck and be able to drive it as long as the app is open and Bluetooth is active.

I also use PaaK as primary key for our Teslas. I can also use my Apple Watch as a Key with the Teslas. As a failsafe I keep the Tesla Key Card in my wallet as a backup if the phone and watch fail.

Heres a picture of the Funny Ford hard key and Tesla key card I keep in my wallet.

It probably just changed your profile to a different user. When I use mine, it is not linked to my user profile; I've tried to re-link it but every time; I have to hit the button on the door to switch my profile back.

Ok ever since a recent account backup I have been having trouble with the truck recognized my PAAK. Not sure why but I have had to use my passcode several times. Sometimes after using it, it recognizes my phone while driving. I have been using my Android S23 for several years now with no issues but now not so reliable. Very frustrating!!

So for me PaaK used to work about 50% of the time, now it never works and guessing it was one of the recent OTA's.

Last night I went to FORD's AI, oh yes Ford now has an AI assistant. I asked how close do I have to be before my PaaK unlocks my Lighting. I did a screenshot and added it to my post. From the response I am guessing Ford knows there is an issue and they are unable to fix it. AI even reworded my question in a more eloquent way.

What phone are you using?

With my iPhone 16 Pro, PAAK is pretty solid. Sometimes I have to wake up the phone or be patient but it always works.

Mine was acting up as well, so I deleted and recreated it. Been working well since then. But, about 5 days after the delete/recreate, I received an e-mail from Ford specifically about PAAK. They wanted me to delete and recreate it.

My guess is that they knew they had a problem with a recent software update, either on the truck or FordPass. I received no notification of either, by the way. I'm hoping that I my actions before the e-mail was sufficient.

Ok - same problem - but after I got the Ford email to delete and restored the key and app I have had no problems. By the way you will need to build another keyless passcode and it can NOT be the same as the old one. One interesting thing is that each phone (such as your wife) can have its own passcode but I am not sure I understand why as a passcode is a passcode to start the truck!

Huge problem with the PAAK last week. It also converted one of the phones to a "my key" with limited access to functions of the truck. Other problems with my other phone. I also had to delete the key and restore the key to get it fixed.
