I know we've got a thread already about Maverick reviews, but I figured we could use a 1-stop-shop for all things Maverick. But for the Lightning, I feel like the Maverick would easily be the most interesting new Ford truck in a generation, and I get the sense there are a few people looking at uncertain wait times for the Lightning that might be curious as to what the Maverick might be like as a stop-gap.
I'll keep updating this thread with info and news, but if you want to go deep, feel free to jump over to the sister forum, Maverick Chat.
Just like we do, the Maverick Chat forum has a cool reservation tracker with lots of cool data about what trim levels are popular and what vehicles people will be trading in. It's definitely worth poking around in.
And don't forget to say Hi in the welcome thread if you do end up joining that community too.
You can watch Ford's Maverick debut video on this thread. They also share all the specs that Ford initially made public, including details about the platform, dimensions, powertrains, etc.
40 MPG CITY. STANDARD HYBRID. SEATS FIVE. STARTS UNDER $20K. ALL-NEW 2022 FORD MAVERICK: DID WE MENTION IT’S A TRUCK? All-new Ford Maverick is the first standard full-hybrid pickup in America and the most fuel-efficient truck on the market with a targeted EPA-estimated rating of 40 mpg in the...
This thread has a great video about the way the bed was designed. It's clear Ford put as much work in here as they did in the Lightning's frunk (I love that frunk!).
But of course there's been more than just the one take on this.
Here's a great video that goes through all the different features in the Maverick's bed. It's a great refresher for anyone looking to get the most out of their truck. Has anyone tried any of these configurations with the flexbed?
Fuel economy has been one of the big headlines for the Maverick. The Hybrid is obviously the standout with 42-mpg city, and 37-mpg combined, but the 2.0t does pretty well for itself with 26.6-mpg combined.
Took my new XL from Panama City Beach to Bowling Green Ky. doing about 80 MPH (hit 95 MPH). Steady ride, solid and little wind chatter. Average MPG going at that speed plus running up and down the Smokey's Foothills, Mammoth Cave, Nat. Corvette Museum (saw more ZO 6's than Mavericks. 10 to 0! I paid $3.79 a gallon one day and the very next day ALL gas stations went to $3.99 per gallon for 87 Octane. Every Single Station. Twenty-Cent hike overnight! I got about 27-28 MPG. That's acceptable....for now. HA! Hybrid order is going to be thrown in the hat in August. This wait won't be as painful. It took 6 months to get what I needed. Now I'm prepared to wait 2 years for what I really wanted. My best guess is I'll be looking at a 2024 Maverick Hybrid maxed-out (except the '360') and expect delivery when Hell freezes over.
Alex on Autos you tube channel recently posted the Hybrid fuel economy he achieved on a recent test drive. Looking at the data it looks like he had the cruise set to 55 in eco mode. The elapsed time matches up. Not bad at all!
TFL took a Maverick hybrid on a test against a Ram 1500 with the Hemi V8 to see how much of a difference in MPG it can get. On a 1-hour highway run in Eco mode the Maverick ended up returning 54 mpg - which is way above what the EPA rates it for. Overall the Maverick's trip computer seems...

And this thread has a cool article explaining why the Hybrid was such a big part of Ford's planning for the Maverick.
Road and Track does a good job breaking down the regulatory reasons why Ford had to offer the Maverick as a hybrid. It also shares some insight as to why there's no regular cab offered so far. https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a36697224/ford-maverick-had-to-be-a-hybrid/ Ford, using a mix of...
It's great to have an actual small truck available again and I can't wait to see what high school kids do with this thing once they're 10 years old and cheap, but the SEMA show cars were a fun preview of what owners can do.
2022 Ford Maverick Order Guide changes for September 24th. I explain the changes in this 20 minute video. It will go live as a premiere so fell free to watch it live with me and ask me your questions. I'll try to answer as many as I can. Saturday 3pm Central. Feel free to watch it at your...

The XL model made headlines for being available (just) under $20K. That's super cheap for a new truck! But you do give up some features most of us have come to take for granted, like cruise control. Here's a thread on how people are finding that sacrifice.
One thing that surprised about the Maverick XL was that it didn't come with cruise control. Now I'll admit, in general I don't use cruise control a lot but it's still nice to have on long trips. For anyone that has an XL, do you miss having cruise control or it something you've learned to live...

And I'm kinda burying the lead here, but just like there has been delays and uncertainty for Lightning reservations, the early Maverick customers (especially the Hybrid fans) have been using the forum to track production progress. This thread on Hybrid availability is a roller coaster.
I looked on the website today and the Hybrid no longer says "limited availability". I reached out to my dealer and he said you can order them again, but they wont be built until January/February. Can anyone else confirm this?
One really cool bit of recent news was Jim Farley saying to CNET that he expects the Maverick to become a "new franchise", meaning the company must be working on plans to build out a family of Maverick vehicles, much as they're doing with Bronco and Mustang.
I had no idea, but it looks like Stellantis is selling a Ram-badged version of a small Fiat pickup in some markets? I wonder if they're considering it for North America?
This photo of a Maverick next to a Rivian R1T and a Hummer EV is kinda fun to look at, but I'm not really sure why someone brought them all together. Anybody know where this photo came from? It looks like it was part of a photoshoot.
Here's how the Ford Maverick looks next to the GMC Hummer EV, a pickup that's sized like a regular 14th Generation F-150. Although the Maverick looks small here, it still seems truck enough, even next to these more "real" trucks.
TFL discovered that the Ford Maverick is the best in class for towing heavy loads (as expected). The Santa Cruz was actually better for a more balanced towing experience, which for many might be better for longer trips. Check out the full test here.

And Savageese dropped their Maverick review this week. It's also positive while not shying away from some of the weaker points.
Mostly positive and totally unvarnished, the takeaway is that the the fundamentals are great (utility, ride, handling, fuel economy), and the tradeoffs are worth it because it's actually affordable. Let me know if anything here surprises you
Has anybody heard from Ford on this? Ford has flagged a batch of Mavericks for a manufacturing issue with the rear seatbelts and with everyone tracking their deliveries, I wondered if anyone on here was being impacted...
Says holes may have been drilled into fuel tanks. https://www.autoevolution.com/news/2022-ford-maverick-recall-alert-fuel-tank-may-have-been-damaged-177246.html
Hi Everyone, The Ford maverick is still the best choice for me no matter how you swing it. I really hope an ATV can fit inside of the bed. Sometimes I think yes, sometimes no. If anyone loads up their quad can you take a pic?
That story from a couple weeks back where Jim Farley said the Maverick may spawn a family of vehicles points to something like this as the obvious option
An owner in Canada got his Maverick wrapped to rep his business. There's no sign of the Area 51 paint and it looks like the whole job cost around $3,800 Canadian.
Took delivery last week on a white XL and put new wheels and tires on it today. Went with putting a deposit on a a dealer ordered about a month ago instead of waiting 4+ months on an XLT with the options I wanted. Was dreading manual mirrors and then learned co-pilot 360 came with power...
Looks like one resourceful owner was able to add cruise control to their XL-trim truck for about $150. A neat DIY solution for anyone eyeing a base Maverick but not wanting to pony up for an XLT just to get cruise control. XL Cruise Control Working
