Wondering if you’re gonna make it to your destination? Worried that the fast charger is going to be booked when you get there?

If you don’t have it yet, you will. Symptoms include:

  • Driving slower than all other cars on the freeway
  • Asking your buddy to haul 2x4s in his mini-van
  • Telling the wife it’s too cold to go to the store

Mark my words, doctors will start to diagnose Range Anxiety in EV owners soon.

We also had this with ICE vehicles less than 50 years ago (off the interstates) when trying to drive through the night (and Sundays); few service stations or convenience stores were open 24 hours a day and most closed on Sunday, especially in the South.

I would suggest in a small generator which is what we do when pulling a horse trailer in rural areas with very few charging options. I have heard some terrible stories of individuals with other electric car models getting stuck on highways due to construction or accident delays in colder temperatures and having their batteries completely drain. When that has happened, they pay premium prices to get towed, not to mention the uncomfortable wait time in the cold weather - this is also a possibility in hot weather running the air conditioning. With electric, you have to become way more aware of not only your driving style, but circumstances that we don't have to think so much about with gas powered vehicles!

especially those with 1/4 of a tank of gas never running out while stuck in construction for hours. No one in gas vehicles ever run out in those situations all while EV’s leaving their house with a 80-90% charge must be aware of traffic jams. 🤦🏼‍♂️ apples to apples. An empty “tank” is an empty tank. Gas or electric. I don’t disagree that driving ev doesn’t require more planning or attention, but not all that different if you don’t keep tank full.

What a load. You'll use half a gallon of gas per hour sitting at idle and an EV will use 1 maybe 2 kwh. You do the math.

The stories you have heard are just that: stories.

I would suggest to all to click on a person's profile and inspect all of their postings before taking the bait from an Anti EV poster. If they have a history of filling the forum with nothing but negative comments I simply select ignore and, well, ignorer them. I will also ignore those that post a single negative comment especially when it starts with, "I have heard" or "someone told me". Those of us driving EVs understand the limits of batteries and are willing to learn and adapt. A "real" Malady 🤯 I am now suffering from is inability to drive an ICE car/truck because it is so clunky and noisy! My wife says I am crazy but My Lightning is so quiet, smooth and responsive that I have a tough time getting comfortable driving her car or our old truck.

It is kinda of informative that said poster started this thread about a new malady a week after selling his truck. Because, evidently he couldn't figure out how to manage driving a Lightning 360 miles in less than 14 hours. I guess if you fail to plan that you might as well plan to fail.

Where did you hear these horror stories? Please post links here before you spread such fake “news”.

EVs use almost no energy while caught in traffic jams.

It’s a lot easier to grab a gas can and get the ICE vehicle on it’s way. You can’t easily bring electricity.

I ordered a Lightning an am looking forward to it. The obvious shortcomings of electric vehicles are easy to see. Hopefully solutions will come about over the next few decades.

If this becomes a real problem, me and few others will have a retirement plan - I'll be the guy. $50/hr and I'll come give you charge.

I bet that within a year, someone will make an app to ask any other EV on the road for help. Probably be a part of Waze.

Within three years, they'll be plenty of EV road side assistance vehicles. Amazon or the USPS may even decide it is revenue source since they'll have a 185,000 local EV delivery trucks on the road.

I would assume the 7.2 kw generator and battery on the F150 hybrid could even charge you up?

Or hydrogen fuel cells become feasible and all this lithium stuff goes away, like betamax! 😬😢

If you are stuck in a depleted EV, you can be rescued by several means:
Large flatbed tow truck or trailer to haul the EV home or to a charging station [< hour]
A large portable generator hauled in a truck or trailer [hours].
A large portable battery (100+ kwh) hauled in a truck or trailer [hours].
Another EV with ability to share [hours] (Hopefully they have enough to spare to get both vehicles back to the charging station)
A small portable generator you bring with you [many hours].
Towed or pushed at low speed a short distance to an outlet or charging station [10's of hours if its only 20 amp 110v].
