Anyone know of a way to disable the driver facing nanny cams for the blue cruise? I own a lariat that doesn’t have the full blue cruise package, but it does have (and I love) the lane centering/adaptive cc that it has. Test driving a platinum this weekend and my god, how annoying can they make something?!
I don’t know if it just doesn’t like my sunglasses, but even without them, glancing down to the speedometer screen prompts a nag.
The setting i found disables the full lane keep system, not just the hands free part. It won’t even go to the actual hands free mode without registering the truck(yes on BC highways - i55 and i70 in Missouri), or find chargers without the truck being added to my ford pass. But the truck isn’t mine so I don’t want to activate it in my app.

Anyone know any tricks to kill just the camera system for the bc?

thanks

How tall are you? I've never had a problem with the camera (5'11"). Every time I've been busted by the cam, I was doing things that'll get you busted. Non hands-free Blue Cruise sometimes gets annoying because it isn't sensing any torque on the steering wheel and I have to do a small swerve to get it to stop complaining about hands-on-wheel.

I wouldn't want to be on the same road with a self-steering vehicle that didn't have an active deadman feature.

My lariat does the same job without the cams. Same as the model x I used to have. The hands on the wheel nag is enough to keep people engaged. The vehicle going into full panic beeping/flashing and pumping on the brakes is not a safe solution IMO.

I asked about height because I thought exceptional height may put eyes out of the scanning area of the camera. Thinking about this some more, I've noticed that something like hand position on the wheel can seemingly block the camera(s) enough to trigger a warning. Could this be a factor?

The system is going to stop the vehicle if it doesn't detect anyone in control. The full panic mode is to try to alert the driver to make some inputs to control the car and alert surrounding drivers as it stops.

I played with it some more last night. Seemed to work better in the dark, but its overly hyper sensitive or something. Looking at the instrument cluster to change to the tire pressure screen from the this trip screen triggered a warning. People have driven with instrument panels for forever, wouldn’t say those people aren’t WATCHING THE ROAD ‼.

I let it the warnings play out the other day to see what it would do, but I was watching the road, was wiggling the wheel, was trying to get its attention that it could clear the warning, it didn’t listen. So I just took over and re enganged it later. Had to be the sun angle or something messing with the cameras. I agree that hand in the face will trigger it as well. Again, overly sensitive. People eat in cars. Have for years 😂

In other news, the B&O unleashed is far superior to the 8 speaker B&O in the lariat. So that’s a bonus. On this trip I still had to charge at the same spots, granted it was cold and windy and rainy, but not sure if the slight give on range anxiety and the better stereo is worth another 30k. The kids like the rear seat heaters.

But, back to the original question, is there a way to disable just the hands free mode that requires the driving facing cameras while leaving the hands on lane centering?

I don't know the answer to your question but the experience you are describing does not sound like anything I've ever experienced using hands free BC. As Voltz said, the only time it's bugged me about paying attention is when I should have been paying attention.

I use hands free BC every time I go to or from work. There are certain curves in the highway it wants me to control and I've seen it not want to stay engaged when the sun angle is low. I assume this is due to glare as it was when it was difficult for me to see too.

You can disable the hands-free driving in the vehicle settings. It's in the adaptative cruise settings. It's not called Blue Cruise, but if you select the adaptive cruise setting it will drop down and show you the options so you can select just the adaptative cruise and not the "active assist" cruise. That being said, I don't think it will help your situation. I don't have that issue with mine, however, that warning about watching the road will sound even if you don't have the cruise on. If yours is going off that often you might take it in and have them look at it.

Yeah, you’re correct. I found that setting, but that disables the “hands on” lane centering as well. Would be cool if it had another mid level option there to keep the hands on like my lariat has minus the cams.

I was just test driving that platinum to see the real world difference between my standard range battery and the extended, but I’ll mention it to the service guys. It did seem a little overbearing, so perhaps it isn’t calibrated properly or something.

Regarding the driver alert warning without the cruise on, you can disable that.

Just drive over 80, hands free doesn't work over 80 mph.
