Has anyone figured out the rhyme or reason behind how Ford chooses people to order the Lightning?
I reserved mine on 5/20/21 and my buddy’s dad reserved his 3 months ago and he got an email to place an order today while I’m still waiting. I thought maybe he knew someone at his dealership but he says no.
Any ideas?
It just pisses me off because he doesn’t even really care about the truck.

Welcome! I know you are new here but this topic is discussed in about 40 threads.....

In short, dealers were allowed to prioritize a certain number of orders.

I think your buddy's dad is fibbing about something. They closed the reservations last year, when the hit 200,000. Dealership priorities were a thing, but those were set in November of last year. He either reserved a lot earllier, or he hasn't ordered. I think I'm the last Day 1 reservation on Earth who hasn't gotten to order, maybe they are trying to hold on to one day one reservations as a trophy or something.

There was no ability to place a reservation three months ago. Those were closed last year. Ordering on the second day, 5/20, they have not produced enough trucks to fulfill reservations placed before midnight on 5/19, even if disregarding other prioritization orders.

I was finally able to order in this wave and I reserved within 30 minutes from the start of the presentation. The dealer I selected was my local small town dealer. My dealer was only allocated 1 Lightning for model year 2022 and 1 mannequin. After talking to my dealer in January they figured out I was number 2 at the dealership in line (they did not prioritize any reservations). So basically it can come down to your dealer size, allocation number from Ford and prioritization. Dealers are also known to put in their own reservations as well. I hope this helps.

Excellent question - I reserved on early am Eastern on 5/21/21 and I am seeing similar things. What’s the point of a reservation/line etc. if it’s never honored?

Ford closed reservations in December 2021.
