How does that work? What's the point of having a reservation?

the point of having a reservation, like any reservation, is to set your place 'in line' to get to ORDER one - without a reservation, you won't.

Dealers, currently, are still Ford's customers. Thus 2022 and probably most of the 2023 models, dealers got to determine the order of the line (if I remember the other threads correctly they could move 20ish peeps to the front of the line). When I got the opportunity to order, my dealer still had to approve, even though I did everything online on my own.

With the split between Ford Blue and Ford Model E the line will truly be a line of first come first serve.

So, I was a May 20 reservation, Sept 9 order, now I still have not been moved to production.

Lesson: It still sucks even after ordering.

All of which explains why I canceled my reservation. No one at my dealer has received invitation to order! I am one month away from turning 79 I do not need a new truck in “ a possible few years”!

Same here! Placed my order 1st day available in 2021. Sounds like the dealers are playing favorites. Some things will never change with car dealerships...that is until there are no more NEW CAR dealerships and we will buy straight from the manufacturer. Ford also is so SLOW to even reach out to us, giving us a crumb of information about every 4 months or more.

You can't reserve an XLT, you can only reserve an order spot. When it comes time to order, you can order any available trim.

I was told the trim you selected you were interested in when submitting the deposit is a factor dictating when Ford will send your invitation to order. Not a good way to entice a new customer.

I’m 99% certain I did. And there was an email a few months back from ford asking you to select again what trim your interested in. I made the wrong choice both times. The obviously want to prioritize higher margin trim build if they can supply it. understandable.

My experience was a little different. I reserved day 1 pro, got an invite for 2022, but all was left were lariats and platinum. Pushed my reservation. I can’t remember when that survey was sent (before or after my chance to order), but I said I still wanted a pro. I was lucky to be part of wave 1 for 2023. I ordered xlt because I wanted to have a chance of getting it this year. Pro at the time was slated to be delivered autumn 2023.
