We have a camping spot that has 30 amp, 120 volt, TT-30R, 2-pole camper connectors. The mobile charger supplied with my lightning has 4 prongs, the camper outlet has 3, I purchased an adaptor and from a camper dealership but it would not power on the charger. Now I’m a complete idiot when it’s come to electricity but I did ask the “camper guy” and he said he has had several Tesla owners purchasing adaptors for the same purpose. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this?

It's hard to answer your question without knowing which adapter you bought, maybe something like this:


But, what you're trying to do will probably not benefit you using the Ford Mobile EVSE, even if it worked. Better to pull the four prong NEMA 14-50P cordset out of the Ford Mobile and replace it with the conventional three-prong 120V house plug that is supplied with the Ford Mobile. Both will be very slow, even if using 120V TT-30.

Tesla's Mobile Connector may allow 120V charging through one leg of the 14-50 (adapter's pin diagram) and Ford's may not:

The Ford mobile cord appears to me a "dumb" EVSE that will take [email protected] or [email protected] Again, for those that have to buy it for $500, DONT!

For $200 you can get the much more feature-rich Tesla mobile cord. This is an example of why.

With the FORD cord, you can get it plugged in to the very common TT-30R at your campsite with the right adaptor, but the cord will only draw [email protected], or 1300 watts.. With the much smarter Tesla cord and the appropriate adaptor, you will get [email protected]; 2600 watts. The Tesla EVSE can tell you are plugged into a 30a circuit, and will properly use 80% of it. The Tesla cord will also monitor voltage and heat, and back down it's draw instead of melting itself into a chard ball the way the Ford cords are famous for doing if the campground outlets are old.

Here is the NEMA bundle you can buy and use with the Tesla cord:


This is invaluable when camping and traveling to remote places where you really don't know what you will find as far as outlets (I travel a lot in Mexico). All the different dryer outlets, higher power 110 outlets, all ar covered except the ubiquitous TT-30R. I have been told that Tesla did not include the TT-30R because campground outlets are so notoriously bad. Not to worry, the aftermarket has you covered:


This completed my kit, and gets a lot of use. The Tesla EVSE sometimes backs the power down due to heat or voltage drop but being able to get 2600 watts out of the common campground 30a outlets is a powerful tool in my bag-of-tricks.

since my PRO comes with the Mobile Charger, I'll use it at home, and I purchased an ADJUSTABLE Amperage charger for the road, which can accept 12a, 16a, 20a, 24a, and 30a... makes life a lot simpler when you don't what 'plug outlets' lie ahead for Level 2 charging.
