Hello all,

I’m currently waiting my 2023 Lightning Lariat ER build scheduled for 12/12/22 production week. One of my primary concerns was nos so much the heated steering wheel and smart hitch but more the lack of availability of the onboard scales. I have asked my dealer to confirm with Ford if they could be activated later when parts modules are available. They seemed to indicate the heated steering wheel would be but have no heard on the scales.

The scales provide data to the range computer which is essential for accurate range forecasts so this was really a possible deal breaker for me. However, I was thinking that if the SW engineering team could provide a new menu in the Towing / Haul section that would allow the user to input approximate weights/loads in place of the live data the onboard scales would provide. This would make me more comfortable in moving forward without the actual scales.

I wanted to get everyones thoughts on this idea.

Do the scales really have input to the driving range? I hadn't heard that before.

right, just like when you attach your trailer, or camper, and the range 'suddenly' shows only 1/2 as much... it's using the 'weight' and the 'type/size/height' of anything you are towing to assist you in 'guessing' the range you might expect...

Weight has far less impact on range than drag. While the navigation system's range will adjust for payload, I doubt it is a major impact.

There are videos that have maxed out the payload with a water tank that has little impact of aerodynamics (Out of Spec, TFL). The impact on range was minimal.
