I hate how the lower grille (lack of) is so exposed. I know the radiator will always take some damage from normal road debris, but there is nothing to protect it from bigger objects from entering. Anybody find any inserts that won't block too much air but give some protection.

I agree but the pool of available products is very thing.
Eventually we will get some proper accessories. Given less than 20k trucks (guesstimate) have been delivered I can see it taking another 6-12mo before the accessory bin begins to really open.
For the latest gen raptor it took 6+ mo for a lot of companies to come out with proper bumpers and even those weren’t perfect in terms of fit (think parking sensors).
