My guess is that the shifter is 1) a way for them to convince traditional truck buyers that an electric F-150 isn't new and scary and it's the same truck they love and 2) a way to keep costs low without changing much inside. I know it doesn't make sense to have a shifter like this in an EV but it's not a dealbreaker or anything for me.
